No. 1 next? No. 2 Michigan topples Illinois, 74-60

Trey Burke scored 19 points and No. 2 Michigan never trailed after the opening minutes of a 74-60 win Sunday over Illinois that could push the Wolverines to No. 1 in the nation for the first time since the 1992-93 season.

Duke’s lopsided loss to Miami earlier in the week opened the door for a new No. 1 when the AP poll comes out Monday – and Michigan put itself in position to take the top spot.

Glenn Robinson III scored 14 points for the Wolverines (19-1, 6-1 Big Ten). Nik Stauskas and Tim Hardaway Jr. added 12 each.

Kansas should be # 1. Michigan lost at OSU, Kansas won at OSU, pretty simple really.

Best team in the best conference in the country… that’s pretty simple really.

Even simpler. Michigan plays in the best conference in college basketball. They deserve the #1 ranking.

Truthfull, it’s the truth. And although M beat KSU on a nuetral court, KU won @ KSU. Don’t worry. M has been media darlings in every sport for 100 years, I’m sure if they’re not # 1 in the coaches poll, they will be in the AP poll for sure.

Michigan wasn’t # 1 in 92-93, those records got erased. Last time they were # 1 was end of 89 season.
