Penn State WR Shawney Kersey leaves team

Once again, Penn State is looking for a replacement on its revamped offense. The team announced Wednesday that starting receiver Shawney Kersey had left the Nittany Lions for personal reasons. He remains enrolled in school.

Kersey was one of the most experienced returning wideouts following the transfer of Justin Brown to Oklahoma and offseason departure of Devon Smith.

Sophomore Allen Robinson has turned into the featured receiver in coach Bill O’Brien’s new offense modeled after the New England Patriots’ attack.

But the Nittany Lions (0-2) are still young or relatively inexperienced at the skill positions besides senior quarterback Matt McGloin. He said Wednesday the team will once again focus on the guys stepping up to fill the void, not those who left.
