Best of Gus: Indiana at Michigan State

Just as we did during 2010-2011 hoops season, we’re archiving Gus Johnson’s greatest calls this season. Johnson is calling men’s basketball for BTN all winter long. We clip and post his best calls and archive them here during games, so bookmark the page and come back all season right up through the Big Ten tourney. Right now, watch Johnson’s call of Michigan State big man Derrick Nix leading the Spartans on a fastbreak and catch all of his best calls from Wednesday’s Indiana-Michigan State game in this post.

Johnson: “Get. That. Outta. Here!”

Johnson: “Looooooob!”

Johnson: “Bang!”

Johnson: “What an athletic play from Appling!”

Johnson: “Blocked!”

Johnson: “Big Z!”

Johnson: “Here comes IU!”

Johnson: “Ollllld schooool!”

AP: Appling, Michigan hand Indiana first loss

Gus, was so one sided in his game calling, it tainted the game ! When IU hits a great shot, he got as quiet as the crowd did, although when state hits 1 he almost has heart failure, come on man ! either call it as a professional, or buy a ticket !!! Do you realise people had to pay to listen to you? the IU vs State game was the worst called game by any announcer in my 53 yrs. of any sport, on any home court. The Fans deserve better !

Interesting comments. Gus seemed excited all game, and for both teams. Just watch the Cody Zeller dunk in this post. “Indiana smacking the Spartans around now,” he said. Or the “Ha! Ha!” from the Watford 3-pointer.

Great clips. Thanks so much BTN for posting these highlights–it’s especially nice for those of us on the west coast who can’t catch the game live. ONE REQUEST: Could you PLEASE stop making us watch that annoying Dr. Pepper spot each time we view a new clip and/or replay an existing one? I understand the need for sponsorships, but this approach is simply excessive..

SpartanMom, you can watch the men’s basketball games live on the West Coast (and many other places. too). BTN is available across the U.S. You can find out if your TV provider carries BTN with our ChannelFinder, and we encourage you to look it up.

Gus is one of the best announcers ever in sports. Maybe if IU wouldn’t have been losing most of the time he would have a reason to get excited.

Brock, quit drinkin the kool-aid, Just sayin, the Big 10 took the IU announcers, Kitchel and company, and now IU has to listen to someone who knows very little about Indiana Basketball, and whose play calling is less than stellar. I dont mind IU lost, state has to make a visit to Bloomington this year, so what comes around goes around, but I hope this trip, they leave the Gus on the BUS !!! Gus did know Zellars name, he called almost every player Zellar, even when Zellar didn’t touch the ball,,, I would hope Gus would listen to his call in the last game, and if he is objective, he will notice how lop sided his call of the game was.

“Big Fella! Don’t hurt ‘em!” is the call of the year! Gus is high energy from the jump – best addition to the BTN ever.

Sam,

You are a moron. IU sucks, Zeller is awful. I don’t understand why the BTN.com staff removed most of my last comment???? I didn’t use any profanity. Enjoy that IU downfall from B1G play, that easy schedule minus the Kentucky game is over. At least you can still beat Penn St……maybe. Stop whining about the announcers, IU fans are not even 1/20th of the B1G audience, you don’t get a say about an announcer like Johnson whos done Nat’l broadcasts for CBS for how many years, he knows what hes doing, get over that first L, or it’s gonna be a loooooonnnnngggg one for you.
