Urban Meyer statement on NCAA sanctions

New Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer released a statement on the NCAA sanctions levied against the Buckeyes on Tuesday morning. Check out his statement in this post. Also, read BTN.com senior writer Tom Dienhart’s column on the sanctions.

Here is Meyer’s complete statement:

“I agreed to become the Head Football Coach at The Ohio State University because Shelley and I are Ohio natives, I am a graduate of this wonderful institution and served in this program under a great coach. I understand the academic and athletic traditions here and will give great effort to continue those traditions.

“It is still my goal to hire excellent coaches, recruit great student-athletes who want to be a part of this program and to win on and off the field. The NCAA penalties will serve as a reminder that the college experience does not include the behavior that led to these penalties. I expect all of us to work hard to teach and develop young student-athletes to grow responsibly and to become productive citizens in their communities upon graduation.”

“But what I didn’t want to have happen, and I made this clear to Jeremy (Florida AD), if I am able to go coach, I want to coach at one place, the University of Florida. It would be a travesty, it would be ridiculous to all of a sudden come back and get the feeling back, get the health back, feel good again and then all of a sudden go throw some other colors on my shirt and go coach? I don’t want to do that. I have too much love for this University and these players and for what we’ve built.”

Not exactly the situation Urban loves. he prefers a made program all set up to win easily. This is starting to become a big challenge for him and he won’t like it. I will be shocked if he is still there after the 3 year probation is up. However, the Buckeyes will be better off as he is simply one of the most overrated coaches of all time!!
