Sunday was a busy day of hoops on BTN. Indiana defeated Butler, the back-to-back reigning national runner-up, and Illinois destroyed Chicago State. In other action, Michigan State blasted Eastern Michigan and Dayton beat Minnesota, which lost star Trevor Mbakwe to a right knee injury. Michigan State 72, Eastern Michigan 40: SCOREBOARD | BOX | AP RECAP

FINAL: Eastern Michigan was no match for Michigan State and the Spartans eased to a 72-40 win on Sunday at Convocation Center in Ypsilanti. The Spartans were able to carry momentum into the break and sustain it to start the second half. Michigan State was winning 17-10 in the first before it went on a 16-4 run to extend its lead to 19 points with 16:51 in the game. Draymond Green sparked the Spartans as he contributed 14 points in the win. Brandon Wood shot 4-of-6 from the field and scored nine points for Michigan State. The Spartans shot 47 percent from the field (28-of-60). In addition to Green's performance, Adreian Payne registered 12 points and Keith Appling totaled 11 points. J.R. Sims scored 14 points for the Eagles in the game. Eastern Michigan had trouble finding its touch, shooting just 28 percent (16-of-57) from the field. Michigan State had an advantage from the free throw line due to shooting 70 percent (14-of-20) from the charity stripe compared to 38 percent (5-of-13) for the Eagles.

HALFTIME: Neither Eastern Michigan's Darrell Lampley nor Michigan State's Draymond Green have been able to get going, but the Spartans lead 25-13 at the half. Lampley, the leading scorer this season for the Eagles, has not made much of an impact through the first 20 minutes. He enters halftime with zero points. Illinois 90, Chicago State 43: SCOREBOARD | BOX | AP RECAP

FINAL: Behind accurate shooting and targeted passing, Illinois topped Chicago State 90-43 on Sunday at Assembly Hall in Champaign. The Cougars allowed the Fighting Illini to go above their season average of 69 points per game. Illinois hit 56 percent of its field goals (35-of-62). The Fighting Illini shot 8-of-21 from three-point range during the game, good for 38 percent. A run lasting across the halftime break allowed Illinois to grab the advantage. The Fighting Illini led 30-17 with 5:48 to go in the first half before they widened the margin to 30 points with a 21-4 run that ended early in the second half. A 13-3 run led Illinois to an early 10-point lead. Sam Maniscalco ended the run with a field goal, which helped the Fighting Illini hold a 44-19 advantage at halftime. Myke Henry sparked the Fighting Illini as he had 14 points and went 6-of-10 from the field in the win. Nnanna Egwu had a quality shooting game, nailing 5-of-7 shots from the field and scored 11 points. Besides Henry's work and Egwu's contribution, D.J. Richardson racked up 11 points and Tyler Griffey scored 10 points. Jeremy Robinson contributed 14 points for Chicago State in the loss. The Cougars had trouble finding their touch, shooting just 37 percent (16-of-43) from the field.

HALFTIME: Illinois went on a 25-8 run to close the first half on a high note and leads Chicago State 44-19. The Fighting Illini led from the start and led by as many as 25 points. Leading 30-17, Illinois went on a 10-0 run to open up a 40-17 advantage. The Cougars have been able to make the most of their good looks from long range, hitting at a 43 percent clip (3-of-7). Jeremy Robinson, the leading scorer this season for Chicago State, has not made much of an impact through the first 20 minutes. Sitting with three points, he is far below his usual level of production. D.J. Richardson's big game so far includes eight points. Ardarius Simmons led the way for the Cougars in the first half, with five points.

Indiana 75, Butler 59: SCOREBOARD | BOX | AP RECAP

FINAL: Will Sheehey paced Indiana with 21 points to lead the Hoosiers to a 75-59 victory over Butler on Sunday at Assembly Hall in Bloomington. Neither team could seize control of the game, as there were 10 lead changes. The Hoosiers shot 29-of-36 from the free throw line. Along with Sheehey's performance, Cody Zeller contributed 16 points, Jordan Hulls scored 14 points, and Victor Oladipo totaled 10 points. Chrishawn Hopkins contributed 19 points and made 7-of-12 shots from the floor for the Bulldogs in the game. Khyle Marshall had a quality shooting game, nailing 7-of-9 shots from the field and scored 16 points. Butler shot just 38 percent from the field (21-of-55).

HALFTIME: Indiana's Cody Zeller and Butler's Andrew Smith have both been held in check during the first half, but the Hoosiers lead 31-28 at the half. Neither team has been able to take control of the game thus far. Indiana and the Bulldogs traded the lead eight times in the first half. The Hoosiers have the lead at halftime due in large part to their ability to get to the free throw line. Indiana took 14 free throws. The Hoosiers have been able to make the most of their good looks from long range, hitting at a 50 percent clip (5-of-10). Indiana's leading scorer, Zeller, has been shut down thus far. He enters halftime with five points. Smith, the leading scorer this season for Butler, has not made much of an impact through the first 20 minutes. He enters halftime with three points. The Hoosiers' Will Sheehey already has nine points. The Bulldogs' Chrishawn Hopkins had a big first half, with 13 points.

Dayton 86, Minnesota 70: SCOREBOARD | BOX | AP RECAP

FINAL: Kevin Dillard scored 19 points and Chris Johnson added 18 points as they teamed up to lead Dayton to an 86-70 victory over Minnesota on Sunday at HP Field House in Kissimmee in the Old Spice Classic. The Flyers hit 47 percent of their field goals (28-of-60). Dayton was on fire from beyond the arc during the game, shooting 44 percent (12-of-27). The Flyers went into the locker room with the momentum and came out of the second half flying as well. Down 23-12 in the first, Dayton broke out for a 27-5 run to take an 11-point lead with 19:28 in the game. Luke Fabrizius shot 4-of-5 from the field and scored 11 points for the Flyers. Austin Hollins scored 14 points and shot 4-of-6 from the field for the Golden Gophers in the loss. Minnesota shot 7-of-18 from three-point range during the game, good for 39 percent. The Golden Gophers went 21-of-27 from the charity stripe as a team (78 percent). Besides Hollins' work, Julian Welch scored 12 points and Maverick Ahanmisi scored 10 points. Dayton snapped Minnesota's six-game winning streak with the victory.

HALFTIME: Minnesota led Dayton late in the first half, but allowed the Flyers to use a 25-5 run to take a 37-28 lead into halftime. The Golden Gophers have been able to make the most of their good looks from long range, hitting at a 50 percent clip (2-of-4). The Flyers have been more effective from beyond the arc than the inside and might want to attempt more three-point shots in the second half after shooting 44 percent (7-of-16) from three-point range in the first half. Paul Williams, the leading scorer this season for Dayton, has not made much of an impact through the first 20 minutes. He enters halftime with three points. Minnesota's Trevor Mbakwe already has seven points. The Flyers' Chris Johnson had a big first half, with nine points.
