Delany's Statement on Penn State Scandal

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany on Wednesday released a statement regarding the Penn State scandal. See the full statement in this post.

Read Delany’s statement below:

The entire situation is so sad.  There is anger, confusion, and heartache on the part of many.  First and foremost, our hearts go out to all those whose lives have been negatively impacted by this series of events, particularly the young victims and their families.

We hear new information on an hourly basis and recognize that there is still much to be determined.  We will wait until the Board of Trustees draws its final conclusions on personnel matters before commenting on such matters ourselves.

Additionally, the Board is appointing a Special Committee to undertake a full investigation of the circumstances that gave rise to the Grand Jury report, and the Grand Jury investigation is ongoing.  We will wait until these two entities have drawn their conclusions before we draw any of our own on the investigation and therefore have no further comment at this time.

PSU was immoral and they should be kicked out of conference. Then they covered it up. They are not above the bigten they should be let go. BYE BYE, cannot have this in our conference sorry.

The fact that at least 2 adult employees of Penn St actually witnessed Sandusky sexually assaulting chldren in the Penn St locker room and not only did nothing to stop it, but didn’t even report it to police, is incomprehensible and indefensable. For the life of me, I don’t understand how someone could walk away from that and not intervene. The adults who should have and could have stopped this many years ago, cowardly thought only of their own careers and reputations and now those have been needlessly destroyed. Cowardly individuals all.

Can’t you just now imagine PSU competing in the BTNs very first conference championship game!!! Delaney and the BTN should cancel and forfeit all of their remaining games. Current players had no part in these horrors but their head coach and superiors did. The victims would now be about the same age as some of PSUs players.
There must be more consequences to this terrible evil. This is not about football it’s about abusing yong boys for God’s sake!

Its sad when one pedophile can create so much pain and heartache and someone like Joe Paterno has to be considered one of the fall guys. He gave his life to that university and going by what was first reported, he was not given distinct details of what happened but only that something was reported and he told the proper people at the university. My thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and all involved.

Penn State has to be let go from the conference. This is perversion beyond belief.

The thought of Penn State being in the first Big Ten Championship game and possibly representing the conference in the Rose Bowl makes me ill. I know the current players had nothing to do with the terrible incidents that have recently come to light, BUT the entire PSU football program will be forever tainted and that university has no place representing the Big Ten. I am ashamed that they are a part of our conference. I think the powers that be should shut the football program there down and fumigate the facilities and staff and start fresh in a few years. Sad,…… unbelieveably sad.

You need to remove Paterno’s name from that trophy!

Imagine (HOPEFULLY this isn’t psu winning the conference) that the winning coach is handed the trophy. He sees the name PATERNO on it.

If that coach was me, I would toss it on the ground and state my team refuses to accept a trophy with the name Paterno on it!
