Maryland?s Melo Trimble has been chosen as the Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year heading into the 2015-16 men?s basketball season.

Trimble was a unanimous selection to the preseason All-Big Ten team, along with Michigan State?s Denzel Valentine, Purdue?s A.J. Hammons and Wisconsin?s Nigel Hayes.

Indiana?s James Blackmon Jr., and Yogi Ferrell, Iowa?s Jarrod Uthoff, Maryland?s Jake Layman, Michigan?s Caris LeVert and Wisconsin?s Bronson Koenig also earned preseason All-Big Ten plaudits.

Trimble was named a first-team All-Big Ten honoree by the media contingent last season, and was a unanimous selection to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Ferrell was tabbed a first-team All-Big Ten recipient by both the coaches and media, while Hammons claimed second-team honors in both ballots. Hayes and Valentine earned third-team All-Big Ten plaudits from both the coaches and media, while Uthoff was named third-team in the coaches? poll and Layman was tabbed third-team by the media. Hayes and Uthoff also earned Academic All-Big Ten laurels.

The All-Big Ten teams are voted on by a panel of conference media. The media also selected a 10-member preseason All-Big Ten team.
