TOP 10 MOMENTS ON BTN/BTN2GO

A little sampling:

4. Mark Dantonio revels in Big Ten Championship Game victory
For as well as the 2013 season turned out for Michigan State, it sure didn't get off to the rosiest of starts. There were quarterback questions – a lot of them! – just about every week the first month or so of the season. Soon enough, Connor Cook made everyone forget about the offensive woes, and the Spartans turned into one of the nation's elite teams on their way to winning the Big Ten and advancing to their first Rose Bowl since the 1987 season. Mark Dantonio was stoked following the Big Ten title game victory, and his BTN postgame interview was must-see stuff.

3. The basketball world meets Adreian Payne's No. 1 fan
It was hard enough not to respect Adreian Payne and his all-around game before we were exposed to his heartwarming friendship with Lacey Holsworth, a seven-year-old Michigan State fan with neuroblastoma, a cancer that most commonly affects children age 5 or younger. After seeing his genuine bond with Holsworth – "a miracle in the making," as her father calls her – on "The Journey," it's impossible not to respect the Michigan State star.

DIENHART'S TOP 10 FOOTBALL GAMES

A little sampling:

6. Ohio State 40, Northwestern 30, Oct. 5. ESPN GameDay set up shop in Evanston for this clash of Big Ten unbeatens that some felt could be a preview of the Big Ten title game. This rainy night turned into the Carlos Hyde Show. Northwestern led 20-13 at halftime. But that?s when the bruising Buckeyes running back took over en route to running 26 times for a career-high 168 yards and three touchdowns (all in the second half) after Hyde had missed the first three games of the season serving a suspension. And Hyde?s effort was needed on a night when Braxton Miller was off his game, with two fumbles and an interception, and nearly was benched coming off a knee injury that caused him to miss almost three games.

5. Penn State 43, Michigan 40, 4 OTs, Oct. 12. Trailing the Wolverines 34-24 with just over 10 minutes left in the game, Penn State rallied to force a tie with Christian Hackenberg hitting two big passes and then running in from one yard out for a touchdown with 27 seconds left to tie the game. Bill Belton then scored from two yards in the fourth overtime after Michigan had kicked a field goal. Moments earlier, Belton converted a 4th-and-one to keep the game-winning drive alive. Some feel this was the biggest game of the Bill O?Brien era.

DIENHART'S TOP 10 FOOTBALL STORYLINES

A little sampling:

5. What a rush. It was the Year of the Running Back, as six eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark: Nebraska?s Ameer Abdullah (1,568); Wisconsin?s Melvin Gordon (1,466); Ohio State?s Carlos Hyde (1,408); Michigan State?s Jeremy Langford (1,338); Wisconsin?s James White (1,337); Minnesota?s David Cobb (1,111). Indiana?s Tevin Coleman (958) surly would have joined the club had he not missed three games. Penn State?s Zach Zwinak (989) and Iowa?s Mark Weisman (938) came close, too. Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller had 1,033 yards rushing.

6. Pelini-gate. An ugly 41-21 home loss to UCLA in September saw many of Nebraska?s 2012 problems persist in blowing a 21-3 second quarter lead that saw the Huskers get outscored 38-0 the rest of the way. Many fans were addled. Soon thereafter, an audio recording from 2011 of Bo Pelini using profane language and disparaging Cornhusker fans mysteriously surfaced. Pelini apologized and survived the episode, but his image in the eyes of some Nebraska fans forever was changed.

DIENHART'S TOP 10 MEN'S BASKETBALL GAMES

A little sampling:

3. Illinois 74, Indiana 72, Feb. 7. The Illini?s Tyler Griffey capped this thriller by hitting a game-winning layup following an inbounds pass with 0.9 seconds left to knock off No. 1 Indiana. The stunning win in Champaign ended a horrible stretch for Illinois, which had lost eight of 11 games and trailed this game, 41-29, at halftime.

2. Michigan 87, Kansas 85 (OT), March 29. It didn't look good for Michigan and Trey Burke at halftime of their Sweet 16 matchup with top-seed Kansas. Not only were the Wolverines trailing, 40-34, but Burke, everybody's national player of the year, was scoreless. Then came the second half – and overtime – and it was all about Burke. The star point guard drained a DEEP trey in the final seconds to force overtime, and he finished with 23 points to seal Michigan's deepest NCAA run since the Fab 5. The Wolverines, of course, went on to make the national title game.
