The Big Ten Conference released its Big Ten Softball Players of the Week for April 16-22 action Monday. See all the winners and check out what they did to earn the distinctions in this post.
Player of the Week: Amanda Wagner, Indiana, Jr., 3B, Burbank, Ill./Queen of Peace
- Reached base safely in 13 of 15 plate appearances on the week, hitting .800 in the Hoosiers? weekend series win against Northwestern
- Combined for an OPS of 1.909 against Northwestern, recording perfect on-base percentages in Games 1 and 2 of the series
- Scored six runs in the series with two in the series opener and four in the finale
- Wins her first career conference weekly honor
- Last Indiana Player of the Week: Sara Olson (April 4, 2011)
Co-Pitchers of the Week: Kayla Massey, Iowa, So., P, Foothill Ranch, Calif./Trabuco Hills
- Allowed just one run in 14.0 innings of work against Michigan State for an 0.50 ERA
- Posted two complete-game victories, allowing just 10 hits while striking out nine
- Pitched seven innings and scattered four hits while striking out seven in the series opener, before allowing six hits and fanning two in the finale
- Wins her first Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honor
- Last Iowa Pitcher of the Week: Chelsea Lyon (April 25, 2011)
Cassandra Darrah, Wisconsin, So., P, Corydon, Iowa/Wayne
- Posted two wins and an 0.58 ERA over the weekend to help Wisconsin to a series sweep of Penn State
- In 12.0 innings of work, struck out eight against no walks and 10 hits
- Struck out five and allowed her only run of the weekend in a complete-game effort during Game 1 before scattering just two hits with three strikeouts in Game 3
- Wins her second Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honor this season
- Last Wisconsin Pitcher of the Week: Cassandra Darrah (April 9, 2012)
Freshman of the Week: Brianna Meyer, Indiana, 1B, Alta Loma, Calif./Los Osos
- Hit .556 and drove in five runs to help the Hoosiers take two of three games from Northwestern last weekend
- Recorded at least one RBI in every game of the series, including three in the series finale, while scoring three times
- Finished with two or more hits in two games of the series, going 2-for-3 in Game 1 and 3-for-4 in the finale
- Takes home her first weekly award
