Northwestern at Minnesota - Women's Volleyball Wrap Up

After trailing in the first set, the No. 9 Minnesota recovered and went on to earn a 3-1 win over Northwestern on Sunday afternoon at the Sports Pavilion. With the win, the Golden Gophers (8-3 overall, 1-1 Big Ten) earned their first conference victory of the 2011 campaign. Northwestern dropped to 9-4 overall and 0-2 in conference action. The Penn State field hockey team moved to 7-3 and 1-0 in the Big Ten after snapping No. 13 Iowa’s six-game winning streak. The Nittany Lions won the Big Ten Conference opener, 3-0, on Sunday over Iowa. After no score in the first half, aggressive plays by Penn State led to three goals in the second half. The votes are in, and our fans selected Illinois’ narrow victory over Western Michigan on Saturday as the “Big Ten Game of the Week.” Catch the re-air at 8 p.m. ET Sunday on BTN. This one came down to the wire as the Illini, who rallied from a 13-10 halftime deficit, were able to stop the Broncos and prevent them from attempting a potential game-tying field goal in the final seconds. With the win, Illinois moved to 4-0, the first time its been perfect after four games since it won the national title in 1951.

North Texas Holds Off Indiana, 24-21

(AP) Lance Dunbar made up for two lost fumbles in the first quarter by gaining 279 all-purpose yards, Derek Thompson threw three touchdown passes and Dan McCarney earned his first victory at North Texas as the Mean Green defeated Indiana 24-21 Saturday night. Dunbar, North Texas’ leading rusher the past two seasons, had a career-high 152 yards receiving and added 127 more rushing. After losing fumbles on consecutive drives in the opening quarter, Dunbar caught an 83-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter that gave North Texas (1-3) its first score. Indiana (1-3) trailed 24-0 before storming back in the fourth quarter. Backup Dusty Kiel threw two touchdown passes in the final 6 minutes. North Dakota State at Minnesota - Football Highlights

(AP) Marcus Williams had two defensive touchdowns for North Dakota State on Saturday to help the Bison pull off another FCS team upset of Minnesota, 37-24. Williams, a sophomore cornerback who played at Hopkins High School in the Twin Cities, returned an interception of Max Shortell‘s late heave 40 yards for a touchdown to seal the game. On the final play of the first half, teammate Colten Heagle picked off MarQueis Gray‘s risky pass and tossed the ball back to Williams as he was taken down. Williams raced 52 more yards to put the Bison (3-0) ahead 28-14 at the break. Donnell Kirkwood rushed 10 times for 70 yards and two touchdowns for the Gophers (1-3).
