Rex Burkhead Visits "The Pulse"

Monday night on “The Big Ten Pulse,” Nebraska running back Rex Burkhead stopped by to chat with Rick Pizzo, Derek Rackley and Tim Doyle about the Huskers’ much-anticipated Big Ten debut at Wisconsin. Burkhead, who has run for 290 yards and four touchdowns the past two weeks, is the Big Ten’s leading rusher among running backs, trailing quarterbacks Denard Robinson and Taylor Martinez. In last week’s win at Wyoming, Burkhead took snaps out of the Wildcat formation. Can we expect more of it against the Badgers? “If he [Offensive Coordinator Tim Beck] wants to, that’s fine with me,” Burkhead told our crew.

Colleen Ward Talks Illini Volleyball

For the first time in program history, the Illinois volleyball team is ranked No. 1 in the AVCA Poll, released Monday. The Illini, who were No. 3 last week, received 55 of the 60 first-place votes after opening Big Ten play with a pair of wins to move to 13-0 on the season. No. 7 Nebraska, No. 9 Penn State, No. 10 Minnesota, No. 12 Purdue, No. 17 Michigan and No. 22 Ohio State also made the poll. A quick look ahead: Northwestern (2-1) at Illinois (4-0) (noon ET/ESPN2), Penn State (3-1) at Indiana (1-3) (noon/ESPNU), Minnesota (1-3) at Michigan (4-0) (noon ET/BTN), Michigan State (3-1) at Ohio State (3-1) (3:30 p.m./ABC), and Nebraska (4-0) at Wisconsin (4-0) (8 p.m./ABC).
