Utah State’s Josh Thompson missed a 37-yard field goal with seconds remaining, allowing Wisconsin to hold on for a 16-14 victory Saturday night. Thompson missed the kick wide right, preserving a win for the Badgers (2-1).
Ball State’s defense held tough in the third quarter, holding Indiana to 32 total yards of offense and the Cardinals have taken the lead 38-25. Ball State’s front seven stepped up in the quarter, allowing the Hoosiers to gain just 10 rushing yards.
At one point Wisconsin trailed by 11 points, but the Badgers have come back to take a 16-14 lead at the end of the third quarter. Wisconsin made the score 14-10 when Kenzel Doe returned a punt for a touchdown. Montee Ball’s 17-yard touchdown run gave the Badgers the lead 16-14 after a six-play, 43-yard drive. Wisconsin started in good field position when the Badgers returned a punt. Wisconsin didn’t throw a single time on that drive.
Indiana aired it out to the tune of 145 passing yards in the quarter, and the Hoosiers have taken the lead 25-24.
In the second quarter, Utah State’s Matt Austin caught an 11-yard touchdown pass, and the Aggies now lead 14-3. Wisconsin closed the gap to 7-3 when Kyle French kicked a 19-yard field goal to put the finishing touches on a 62-yard drive.
