Monday was a busy day in terms of player activity across the Big Ten. It started with good news, that being Trevor Mbakwe would return to Minnesota for the 2012-13 season. Moments later, Purdue announced John Hart was transferring, followed by Ohio State releasing the same news about J.D. Weatherspoon. Like much of the Midwest, Indiana experienced terrible weather Saturday. In fact, it got so bad in the Hoosier State that both Indiana and Purdue were forced to cancel their spring game and scrimmage indoors. The weather affected our broadcasts of the events, to the point where we can’t re-air the games on BTN tonight, as originally scheduled. Instead, we’ll show Purdue’s 2011 win over Ohio State at 7 p.m. ET and Indiana’s 2007 bowl-clinching win over Purdue at 9. A two-run home run by Erika Petruzzi in the fifth inning was all the offense Purdue needed to take a 2-1 win over the Ohio State in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader, and in Game 2, the Boilermakers capitalized on five Buckeyes miscues to post the doubleheader sweep in an 8-3 win. It was a historic day on Big Ten baseball diamonds Sunday afternoon. In Columbus, Nebraska swept a doubleheader from Ohio State to card its first conference road series win since taking 2-of-3 from Baylor in Waco, Texas, in 2008. Meanwhile, in West Lafayette and University Park, respectively, Purdue coach Doug Schrieber became the program’s all-time wins leader and Penn State coach Robbie Wine won his 200th game. Michigan State’s Branden Dawson gave Spartan basketball fans reason to be excited Sunday afternoon, tweeting the following: “Just receive good news from the Doc. He says I’m two months ahead of schedule.” Dawson, a talented, tough and athletic freshman, tore his left ACL on March 4. No. 13 Penn State knocked off its third top 10 opponent of the season Sunday afternoon, downing No. 10 Ohio State, 15-12, in front of a national television audience at a breezy Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. With the key ALC win, Penn State (10-4, 2-2) carded its seventh consecutive victory over the Buckeyes and finish the regular season with a stellar 7-1 road record.
