Michigan’s defense shut down Purdue, allowing only eight yards of offense in the first quarter, and the Wolverines lead 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Michigan took the game’s first lead after Fitzgerald Toussaint pounded in a one-yard touchdown run on the last play of a 16-play, 78-yard drive.
Andrew Maxwell passed for 290 yards and two touchdowns, and Michigan State rallied from a 17-point deficit to defeat Indiana 31-27 on Saturday. Aaron Burbridge caught eight passes for 134 yards and LeVeon Bell ran for 121 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries for the Spartans (4-2, 1-1 Big Ten), who were coming off a 17-16 loss to No. 12 Ohio State.
Matt McGloin had the go-ahead score with a 5-yard touchdown run with 2:37 left and Penn State rallied from 11 points down in fourth quarter to beat No. 24 Northwestern 39-28 on Saturday. The Nittany Lions scored three times in the final 9:49, starting with McGloin’s 8-yard touchdown pass to Allen Robinson as the receiver dragged along the back line of the end zone.
Northwestern gained 72 yards on the ground in the third, and the Wildcats now lead Penn State, 28-17. Northwestern held Penn State to just 24 rushing yards in the quarter. The Wildcats have erupted for 14 straight points.
The No. 10 University of Minnesota volleyball program came from behind to defeat No. 25 Michigan State in five sets Saturday at the Sports Pavilion. Le’Veon Bell ran for 33 yards and one touchdown in the second quarter, but Indiana still leads Michigan State, 27-14, at halftime. Indiana aired it out in the quarter, finishing with 84 passing yards. The Hoosiers have scored 10 unanswered points.
