No school epitomized the state of college basketball in 2012-13 better than Indiana this week. The Hoosiers won a thrilling game over No. 1 Michigan on Saturday night to move into sole possession of first place in the Big Ten and atop the polls—only to suffer the low of lows last night by losing to an unranked Illinois team that had lost six of its last seven games.
Are you ready for some spring football? Hey, it’s not the real thing with packed stadiums, marching bands, tailgaters and cheerleaders all pouring their hearts into a regular season game. But, it’s the next best thing to cure your football fix. Northwestern is the first to start, opening spring drills on Feb. 27. Minnesota is the last to open, starting on March 26.

This has been a trying season for Penn State. You don’t have to remind D.J. Newbill who has overcome bigger things in his life, including a transfer and the loss of his mother. The 6-4 sophomore is doing his part to get the Nittany Lions on track. How tough has it been? Penn State is 0-10 in the Big Ten and 8-14 overall. Not having star point guard Tim Frazier has made matters challenging for Newbill and Penn State, as Frazier is out with a left Achilles tendon injury suffered just four games into the season.
