In a blowout win of Sam Houston State on Thursday night, Indiana senior guard Jordan Hulls drilled a three-pointer from the top of the arc to reach 1,000 points in his Hoosier career. Once play stopped, the one-time Indiana Mr. Basketball from Bloomington South High School grinned as the crowd went wild, and during a timeout Indiana coach Tom Crean raised Hulls’ arm and acknowledged the crowd.
Iowa held Howard to 14-of-52 shooting, as defense led the Hawkeyes to a 66-36 victory on Thursday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. Iowa (3-0) held Howard (0-2) to 27 percent shooting from the field. Roy Devyn Marble had a big performance for the Hawkeyes, with 22 points and 9-of-15 shooting from the field.
Minnesota held Tennessee State to 14-of-59 shooting, as defense led the Golden Gophers to a 72-43 victory on Thursday at Williams Arena in Minneapolis. Minnesota (3-0) held Tennessee State (0-3) to 24 percent shooting from the field, and the Golden Gophers never trailed in the game.
Davon Usher led Mississippi Valley State with 37 points, but it was not enough as the Delta Devils fell to Northwestern 81-68 Thursday at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston. Reggie Hearn and Jared Swopshire both had good games for Northwestern (2-0). Hearn contributed 23 points, made 8-of-11 shots from the floor, and shot 4-of-6 from long range.
