Revsine's Numbers: For Openers ...

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Sure, the conference added a team. True, we now have divisional play and a championship game. Yes, some long-tenured coaches are gone. But you can always count on the “Big Ten Numbers” – back for a fifth season. With no further ado (for no other reason than, in the first week of the season, I’m a little too busy for much in the way of ado), let’s get to them. It all starts on Thursday night with Wisconsin hosting UNLV. The numbers tell us that it likely won’t be interesting

Michigan State's Mark Dantonio, Don Treadwell

Step Into My Office: Coach Dantonio

This season, BTN rolls out a new show called Step Into My Office, as Mike Hall sits down with football coaches for some really interesting chats. Catch the series debut right now on BTN. Mike passes along this bonus clip and a quick story in expectation of the first “Step Into My Office” with Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio. “Mark Dantonio may have the calmest on camera presence of our interviewees. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t interesting. He wins you over in a confident, patient, fatherly way. I didn’t want to dwell too long on the heart attack story with Mark,

Wisconsin's Montee Ball

Badgers Blow Away UNLV, 51-17

Russell Wilson lived up to the hype and made all the offseason talk about him seem worthwhile. The much-talked-about former North Carolina State star led the Badgers on six scoring drives in the first half, including five touchdowns, en route to an easy 51-17 victory over UNLV on Thursday night at Camp Randall Stadium. Wilson did it with his arm (255 yards, 2 TDs) and his legs (62 yards, 1 TD), while Montee Ball scored four touchdowns for the third straight regular-season game, dating back to last year, and added 130 total yards. Northwestern's Dan Persa

Northwestern's Persa Questionable For Opener

Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa appeared atop the Wildcats’ depth chart when it was released late last week. But two days before the opener at Boston College, the school’s pregame injury report lists the star as questionable. In other words, Persa might not be physically ready to play in Week 1 as a result of last year’s season-ending Achilles’ injury. Persa and head coach Pat Fitzgerald spent much of the offseason saying the Achilles was good and that Persa would be ready to start the season. That could be the case, although this report indicates he could use another week, if

Ohio State's Jordan Hall

Three Buckeyes Suspended For Saturday

Three more Buckeyes have been suspended for Saturday’s season opener against Akron. As part of its continued work with the NCAA to resolve any remaining football compliance issues, the Ohio State athletic department self-reported violations Thursday involving Jordan Hall, Corey Brown and Travis Howard. The three players received impermissible benefits of $300 or less each in total at a charity event they attended earlier in the year — an offense that yields a one-game suspension, per NCAA rules. Watch our Ohio State Football Preview now. The Buckeyes were already without Mike Adams, Boom Herron, DeVier Posey and Solomon Thomas for

Trophy Talk: Naming Big Ten Contenders

The Big Ten underwent numerous changes since the 2010 season came to a close. There was the addition of Nebraska, of course, which paved the way for the conference to create two divisions, Legends and Leaders, and a championship game. A little more under the radar, however, was the addition of 18 new trophies, two for the championship game, two for postgraduate awards and 14 for annual awards. Every trophy is named after two Big Ten historical figures (Nagurski-Woodson Award, Defensive Player of the Year). Watch now as the BTN crew offers its 2011 Legends Division trophy contenders. And what

Legends Division: Top Games Of 2011

One thing’s certain: the addition of Nebraska makes the Big Ten football schedule even more entertaining. “You add a team [Nebraska], but you add an incredibly high-profile team,” BTN host Dave Revsine said. “You look at every single weekend — suddenly it takes on a heightened importance with loads of good games.” No joke. The Huskers open Big Ten play Oct. 1 at Wisconsin and host their first Big Ten game the following weekend against Ohio State, which will welcome back their suspended players that week. Watch now as Revsine breaks down all of the best Legends Division games.
