On Tuesday’s season debut of “The Next Level,” our resident NFL draft expert Russ Lande released his first Big Board of the 2012 season. Michigan State’s William Gholston and Purdue’s Kawann Short top the list that includes seven defensive players. The lone offensive guys: Michigan’s Taylor Lewan, Michigan State’s Le’Veon Bell and Wisconsin’s Montee Ball. Watch Lande break down his top five Big Ten NFL draft prospects now.

Purdue defensive tackle Kawann Short thought about turning pro after last season, but he didn’t like what he was hearing from the NFL advisory board. So, he’s back for a senior season. And the affable Short just may be the top defensive tackle in the Big Ten.
The Michigan-Michigan State rivalry is a heated one, to be certain, and the last thing it needed was fuel added to the fire. The rivalry may have been taken to another level Saturday night. You see, during Michigan’s 41-14 season-opening loss to reigning national champ Alabama, Michigan State players went to Twitter and tweeted critical comments about Denard Robinson and the Wolverines. There’s an interesting trend going on with star Big Ten football players. It all started when former Illinois running back Mikel Leshoure revealed in the days leading up to the 2011 NFL Draft that people had mispronounced his name all along. Enter the 2012 Big Ten season, and there are three more pronunciation changes: Wisconsin’s Montee Ball, Minnesota’s Troy Stoudermire and Purdue’s Kawann Short.
