As we sit on the edge of Football Saturday, there’s lots of news to catch up on. I will be at the Michigan at Nebraska game, and the more I think about it, the more I realize the magnitude of this game for the Cornhuskers. A win over the Big Ten unbeaten Wolverines would push Nebraska into the driver’s seat in the Legends—and give the program a much-needed marquee win. In fact, it would be the biggest Big Ten victory for the Huskers.
It’s time for No. 1. The last nine days, BTN.com’s Brent Yarina has unveiled his 2012-13 preseason Big Ten Player Rankings one by one. See players 2-10 here. Who’s No. 1? It’s pretty simple at this point, really. The pick is Indiana sophomore Cody Zeller. Reminder: Once the season gets underway, Yarina will release a weekly Player Rankings every Monday.
In my preview of this Saturday’s six games, I believe most teams will play with a real sense of urgency. Nebraska and Michigan are two good examples, but Ohio State and Penn State each have something to prove, too. Michigan State and Wisconsin have a history, Iowa leads Northwestern in the standings, and Purdue, Minnesota, Indiana and Illinois each seek their first conference win.

Last week generated some seriously thrilling endings in the Big Ten: Nebraska’s program record-tying fourth-quarter comeback against Northwestern; Michigan’s game-winning field goal in the waning seconds to end a four game skid against Michigan State; and Navy’s come-from-behind win over Indiana.
