Mike Trumpy ran for 106 yards with a late touchdown, and Northwestern beat Boston College 22-13 on Saturday. Jeff Budzien tied a school record with five field goals and the Wildcats (3-0) made it three wins over three BCS teams to start the season even though they didn’t reach the end zone until the closing minutes.
Denard Robinson put up 397 yards of total offense and accounted for four touchdowns in No. 17 Michigan’s 63-16 rout of Massachusetts on Saturday. Robinson, who came out of the game with Michigan (2-1) leading 56-13 late in the third quarter, rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown and completed 16 of 24 passes for 291 yards and three scores.
Matt McGloin threw for 231 yards and four touchdowns and Penn State overwhelmed Navy in a 34-7 win Saturday for rookie coach Bill O’Brien’s first career victory. the Nittany Lions (1-2) rolled to a morale-boosting victory following two draining losses to open a season of change in Happy Valley. Penn State picked up its first win since the NCAA levied landmark sanctions in July.
Michigan now leads 56-13. The Wolverines rushed for 82 yards in the quarter. The last 21 points have been scored by the Wolverines. Michigan opened up the lead, 49-13, after Denard Robinson tossed an 18-yard touchdown to Roy Roundtree to end a five-play, 41-yard drive. The Wolverines’ punt return set Michigan up to start the drive.
Alex Amidon had a productive quarter for Boston College with four catches for 52 yards, but the Eagles still trail 15-10. Northwestern’s Jeff Budzien made a 20-yard field goal, the last of an 18-play, 93-yard drive to give the Wildcats the lead, 15-10.
Mark Weisman rushed for 41 yards and one touchdown, and the Iowa Hawkeyes now lead 24-16. Iowa made its lead 24-13 when Weisman ran two yards to paydirt on the last play of a four-play, 75-yard drive. The key play on the Hawkeyes’ drive was James Vandenberg’s 51-yard pass.
