Brandon Richardson isn’t the first player to go into the expensive seats at Mackey Arena this season, and he might not be the last. In the first half of Nebraska’s game at Purdue on Wednesday night, Richardson went to save a ball near the sideline and had to jump the Huskers bench in the process. Once in the air, Richardson realized he had nowhere to land and finally came down on a railing. It looked painful, but luckily he was OK. Watch Richardson’s hard landing now. Earlier in the season, Terone Johnson went into the seats, as did Dru Antrhop.
The Internet’s hockey fans are abuzz today because it’s the 32nd anniversary of the day the U.S. Olympic hockey team beat the Soviet Union on the way to winning the gold medal (USA Hockey is doing a number of things on their Facebook page). The observation of the anniversary reminded us of two things related to the Big Ten. First, we recently profiled the late Herb Brooks on “Big Ten Icons” and you can watch the clip in this post.
In the latest installment of “I Hit It To Win It,” BTN’s Jordan Cornette sits down with former Ohio State player Matt Sylvester to discuss his buzzer-beating shot that handed the 2004-2005 Illinois team their only regular season loss. This is an ongoing series of interviews and we store them all in our “I Hit IT To Win It” section. Previously, Cornette spoke with Nick Anderson, who hit an incredible shot against Indiana to win the game at Assembly Hall in Bloomington. Watch the video of the shot and Cornette’s interview with Anderson now right now.

By now, every Big Ten team knows that Ohio State’s Sam Thompson is a highlight waiting to happen. And yet, the freshman seems to consistently find open spaces around the rim, which, more times than not, leads to a jaw-dropping alley-oop. Thompson struck again in Tuesday night’s win over Illinois. This time, the pass came from Shannon Scott, not the usual Aaron Craft, but it was just as nice. And for good measure, Thompson also had a great block in the revenge win. Watch Thompson’s alley-oop now and see the terrific block in this post.
Tuesday night on Big Ten Football Report, Gerry DiNardo and Howard Griffith analyzed the Big Ten defensive lines and Chris Martin told you who he thinks will stand out at this week’s NFL Combine. We also aired Part II of DiNardo’s conversation with new Illinois head coach Tim Beckman. This week, Beckman talked about the influential coaches in his life. Watch the interview now and catch Part I in this post.
