At halftime of Purdue’s victory over High Point on Monday night, we aired a quick feature that gave Big Ten fans a behind-the-scenes look at the newly renovated Mackey Arena. From the court to the weight room to the locker room, among several other things, there have been a number of improvements made to Purdue basketball’s home. Everything looks really good, too. Just one more victory. That’s all Purdue and Northwestern need to become bowl eligible. And if each makes it, the Big Ten will have 10 bowl-eligible teams. However, the Big Ten has just eight bowl slots. Two more would need to be found for all of the Big Ten teams to find a postseason home. That means the Big Ten needs other leagues or schools to fail to have enough bowl eligible teams to fill their bowl slots. Big Ten Makes Change to Football Trophy

On Monday the Big Ten Conference announced it is removing Joe Paterno’s name from the Big Ten Conference Football Championship trophy. The trophy had been named the Stagg-Paterno Championship Trophy and it will now be the Stagg Championship Trophy. Watch the Big Ten Blast video in this post to get the latest details. (AP) John Shurna scored a 15 points and Luka Mirkovic added 12 to lead Northwestern to a 60-36 season-opening victory over Texas-Pan American on Sunday night. The Wildcats shook off a sluggish start, using an 11-1 run late in the first half to take control. They steadily extended the advantage behind 11 second-half points from Drew Crawford. Brandon Provost and Jared Maree had 12 points each for the Broncs, who are 0-2 in a season-opening Chicago swing. They lost at DePaul on Friday. (AP) Victor Oladipo scored a career-high 21 points on Sunday to help Indiana beat Chattanooga 78-53. Jordan Hulls added 18 points and Verdell Jones III 16 for Indiana, which shot 50 percent from the floor and recorded seven blocks.
