Wisconsin's Ball Named Heisman Finalist

Turns out a Big Ten single-season record 38 touchdowns is enough to garner an invite to New York City for the Heisman Trophy presentation. Wisconsin’s Montee Ball was named one of five finalists for the most prestigious award in college sports Monday night, the announcement coming live on ESPN by former Ohio State star and 1995 Heisman winner Eddie George. Alabama’s Trent Richardson, Baylor’s Robert Griffin III, LSU’s Tyrann Mathieu and Stanford’s Andrew Luck join Ball in NYC. “So happy and excited for Montee Ball going to NY,” Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema tweeted. “Well deserved and great publicity for our

Big Ten Hoops Power Rankings

It’s time to release my latest Big Ten men’s hoops power rankings. The rankings are not meant to mimic the Big Ten standings. What fun would that be? They aren’t scientific, either. They’re simply my thoughts on where each Big Ten team stands at that time. Agree? Disagree? Tweet @BTNBrentYarina or leave your comments below. The week ahead pits Big Ten teams against two of the nation’s best programs, No. 1 Kentucky and No. 13 Kansas. Indiana hosts Kentucky at 5:15 p.m. ET Saturday, while Ohio State plays at Kansas at 3:15 p.m. Saturday. Check out Brent’s latest power rankings

Last season, the Big Ten started 2-0 in the postseason—then went 0-5 on New Year’s Day before Ohio State beat Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl, a victory that later was erased by OSU as part of NCAA sanctions.
