The Cornhuskers got on the scoreboard first, rattling off a two-play, 68-yard drive that ended in a score when Rex Burkhead turned a handoff into a 61-yard touchdown. Nebraska expanded its lead to 14-0 thanks to a six-play, 44-yard drive that ended when Ameer Abdullah ran eight yards to paydirt.

Nebraska running back Rex Burkhead returned for the first time Saturday since he hurt his left knee in the team’s season-opening win over Southern Miss. Wearing a bulky brace on the knee, Burkhead started and looked great in the early going. The senior ran for 79 yards on his first three carries, including a highlight-reel 61-yard scoring scamper.
