(AP) Bill O’Brien took the podium, looked straight ahead and uttered the kind of words you’d expect from someone who had just been introduced as Penn State’s new head football coach. “This is unbelievable.” Pronouncing himself as the new leader of Penn Stateon Saturday, O’Brien read a statement, then took questions from the media before posing for pictures. Jan. 7 Women's Hoops Roundup

There were a couple of Big Ten women’s hoops games Saturday and both resulted in rather surprising upsets, including Michigan handing bitter rival and No. 11 Ohio State its first loss in a 73-62 decision. In the other game, Michigan State upset No. 19 Penn State, 75-65, on the road. Taylor Alton scored a career-high 20 points to help the Spartans card the upset. Several Big Ten teams around the conference were in action on Friday night, including the Michigan-Northwestern wrestling match. In the season opening Big Ten dual, the Wolverines came out on top 28-9 over Northwestern. Weekend Hockey Action

BTN will provide live television coverage of two men’s ice hockey games this weekend, beginning at 8 PM ET Friday when Wisconsin opens a two-game homestand against Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). On Saturday, Notre Dame will visit Mariucci Arena for the first time when it faces Minnesota for the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game. The puck drops at 8 PM ET. Thursday's Big Ten Women's highlights

KK Houser scored 17 points to help No. 18 Purdue beat Wisconsin 63-52 on Thursday night. Wisconsin’s Taylor Wurtz, who entered the game averaging 16.1 points per game, was held scoreless on 0-for-10 shooting.
