Minnesota's Rodney Williams

Dienhart: Q&A with Rodney Williams

Is there a more electric player in the Big Ten than Minnesota’s Rodney Williams? Of course not. The 6-7, 200-pound junior forward from Minneapolis is a human highlight film, seemingly executing one jaw-dropping, make-your-heart pound dunk every game. Like, for instance, the 360-degree one in this post. Williams also may be the top player on a Golden Gopher squad looking to augment its NCAA tourney resume as it takes on Wisconsin in a big game on tonight. Williams paces Minnesota in scoring (10.5), rebounding (5.3) and steals (1.5). And, because of those mesmerizing dunks, Williams also leads the team in

I Hit It To Win It: Anderson's Shot At Indiana

The 1988-89 Big Ten basketball season was one for the ages and the league was stacked with great teams and players. Indiana was a powerhouse and Illinois would wind up in the Final Four. As the Hoosiers and Illini prepare to play tonight, (8 p.m. ET, BTN/BTN2Go) look back at this incredible moment from their 1989 game at Indiana. In the first of an ongoing series called “I Hit It To Win It” let’s relive Nick Anderson’s buzzer-beating three-pointer. Do you remember it? Indiana’s Jay Edwards also had a remarkable shot in the waning moments, too. BTN’s Jordan Cornette sits

Michigan State's Adreian Payne

Did You See This? Payne alley-oop

Michigan State’s Adreian Payne is as long as any player in the Big Ten. That length really comes in handy when his teammates decide to loft a pass his way in the paint. Keith Appling knows that as well as any Spartan. The first-year Michigan State point guard found Payne open around the rim in the first half of Wednesday night’s game against Penn State, and the result was pretty obvious. Two easy points. Watch the Appling-to-Payne alley right here. Find more “Did You See This?’ videos, see other Michigan State’s Best videos, and subscribe to our free “Did You

Ohio State's William Buford

No. 3 Ohio State fends off Purdue, 87-84

(AP) William Buford scored a career-high 29 points and capped his night with a pivotal dunk in the final minute to power No. 3 Ohio State past Purdue 87-84 on Tuesday. The win was Ohio State’s 40th in a row at home – since losing to Purdue two years ago at Value City Arena. Buford scored 21 points in the second half to carry the Buckeyes (21-3, 9-2) while Jared Sullinger and Aaron Craft were on the bench with foul trouble. He scored seven straight points as Ohio State took the lead for good. D.J. Byrd, averaging 6.5 points a

Purdue's Kelsey Barlow

Purdue's Barlow posterizes Sullinger

Blessed with unreal athleticism and great genes, Purdue’s Kelsey Barlow is no stranger to making his way onto the highlight shows. The junior has his frustrating moments, no doubt, but he can drop a lot of jaws if given the opportunity. Barlow did just that Tuesday night when he posterized preseason Big Ten player of the year Jared Sullinger in a narrow loss at No. 3 Ohio State. The dunk drew rave reviews from the ESPN crew, with Mike Tirico saying in amazement, “That is pretty special.” Indeed. Watch the dunk now and see Barlow’s other big slam in this

Illinois Fighting Illini former head coach Lou Henson

‘Icons’ Continues with Illinois’ Lou Henson

Illinois’ legendary Lou Henson, who won 423 games in 21 seasons as the Illini head basketball coach, is profiled Thursday in a new episode of Big Ten Icons, presented by Discover. Hosted by Hall of Fame broadcaster Keith Jackson, the show airs at approximately 10:30 p.m. ET, following the Illinois-Indiana men’s basketball game. The show includes new one-on-one interviews with Henson; Illinois head coach Bruce Weber; award-winning journalist Mike DeCourcy; former “Flyin’ Illini’ players Stephen Bardo and Kendall Gill, and others. Dienhart: Time to rank the games

This is a nice week of action with five matchups that will go a long way toward determining the Big Ten title chase—and possible NCAA bids. The steak vs. lobster match between the first-place Buckeyes and second-place Spartans is a five-star affair. Don’t miss it. What about the other games? Dienhart ranks all 10 of the week’s upcoming games in this post. Watch our interview with Michigan State’s Draymond Green before the week’s festivities tip off Tuesday night. 1. Michigan State at Ohio State, Saturday, Feb. 11. Save the date. It doesn’t get any better than this, a battle between

Big Ten Hoops Power Rankings

It’s time to release my latest Big Ten men’s hoops power rankings. The rankings are not meant to mimic the Big Ten standings. What fun would that be? They aren’t scientific, either. They’re simply my thoughts on where each Big Ten team stands right now and who would win on a neutral court. Agree? Disagree? Tweet @BTNBrentYarina or leave your comments below. Also, did you see my top 10 plays from the past week? 1. Ohio State (20-3, 8-2) – Attention, Big Ten coaches: Jared Sullinger need to be double-teamed at all times. On Saturday, Wisconsin’s Bo Ryan opted to

NCAA Womens Basketball: Wisconsin at Ohio State

Prahalis scores 34, Ohio State Beats Wisconsin

(AP) Samantha Prahalis scored a career-high 34 points and No. 10 Ohio State made the most of an eight-day layoff to beat Wisconsin 72-58 on Monday night, the Buckeyes’ 20th consecutive victory over the Badgers. Tayler Hill, the Big Ten’s leading scorer, added 18 points for the Buckeyes (21-2, 8-2), who had lots of time to mull a disappointing 76-65 loss at Minnesota on Jan. 29. Ohio State broke the game open with a 16-3 second-half run. Taylor Wurtz had 20 points and Morgan Paige 14 for Wisconsin (8-15, 4-7), which hit a school-record 12 3-pointers.
