Norwood Teague

Dienhart: Gophers make "home run hire"

There’s a new leader at Minnesota. His name is Norwood Teague. And he arrives from VCU with a reputation as an astute handler of people who has business acumen and the all-important ability to raise money. Looks like a home run hire for an athletic department that needs good news, as its football and basketball programs have struggled in recent years. The Golden Gophers haven’t been to a bowl since 2009 and haven’t been to the Rose Bowl since the 1961 season. Every other team in the Big Ten has been to at least one Rose Bowl since then, including

Kevin Ferrell

Meet Indiana recruit Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell

The immediate future of the Indiana men’s basketball team is extremely bright. Not only do the Hoosiers return their starting five from a team that advanced to the Sweet 16 this past season, but they welcome a highly touted recruiting class, headlined by point guard Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell. Ferrell, a 5-foot-10 lead guard from Park Tudor High School (Ind.), will join Cody Zeller, Christian Watford and company in Bloomington starting next season. Get to know the future Hoosier with this feature. With Ferrell and the other decorated recruits on board, many national experts are predicting big things for the Hoosiers

Ohio State's Luke Fickell

One-on-One with Ohio State's Luke Fickell

Ohio State’s Luke Fickell is in an interesting position. A year after serving as the Buckeyes interim head coach, Fickell is back at defensive coordinator — a title he held from 2005-2010. In 2011, Fickell led Ohio State to a 6-7 record. Watch Howard Griffith’s interview with Fickell now. Also, don’t forget to check out senior writer Tom Dienhart’s column from Ohio State’s spring game. Sunday's Big Ten Baseball Roundup

The University of Iowa baseball team beat Penn State, 4-2, Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Duane Banks Field. The Hawkeyes scored three first-inning runs and never looked back en route to snapping a three-game losing streak. Iowa starter Sasha Kuebel was terrific, earning his fourth win of the year to remain perfect (4-0). The rookie threw seven and a third solid innings, yielding just two runs, striking out two while scattering seven hits. Read the full recap at and get our Sunday baseball roundup in this post. Michael Thomas

Dienhart: Thomas Shines in Spring Game

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Urban Meyer has talked about the need to find players who can make things happen. He calls them “wow” players. Well, the first-year Ohio State coach found one in the spring game today in receiver Michael Thomas. The Scarlet beat the Gray, 20-14, but that was far from the top story. Rather, the emergence of Thomas was the headliner. The true freshman who graduated high school early to take part in spring drills led all players with 12 catches for 131 yards with a long of 23. Not bad for a kid who should be preparing for

Paul Jones
