No. 24 Northwestern scored when Venric Mark turned a handoff into a three-yard touchdown to cap off a 10-play, 78-yard drive, giving the Wildcats the game’s first lead. Northwestern threw just one time during that march downfield.
Wisconsin picked up 177 yards on the ground game during the first quarter, and the Badgers lead 14-0. Wisconsin’s defense shut down Indiana’s aerial attack in the quarter, holding the Hoosiers to 30 passing yards. The Badgers got on the scoreboard first, rattling off an eight-play, 69-yard drive that ended in a score when Montee Ball ran 10 yards to paydirt. The score tied Ball with Ricky Williams on the career TD list.

Purdue scored when Akeem Shavers pounded in a three-yard touchdown run to cap a nine-play, 68-yard drive, giving the Boilermakers the game’s first lead. Robert Marve’s 23-yard pass to Shavers took Purdue from the 42 and across midfield to ignite the drive.
