Twitter: Favorite Hummel moments

Wednesday was Senior Night at Mackey Arena, and that meant it was Purdue fans’ final chance to say goodbye to Robbie Hummel, as well as Lewis Jackson and Ryne Smith. As great as Jackson and Smith are, Hummel was the star of the festivities. The forward, of course, came to Purdue along with JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore, and the trio put Purdue back on the national map. Unfortunately, injuries plagued Hummel throughout his career and kept him off the court for a year and a half. I went to Twitter to ask Purdue fans for their favorite Hummel moment or memory. Spring Football: What's On The Horizon

Big Ten football is almost back. Spring practices are set to begin with Northwestern kicking off on March 3 and most sessions culminate with a spring game of sorts. Three schools have new head coaches (Illinois, Ohio State, and Penn State) and the usual roster turnover hits every squad, too. In anticipation of these practices, I took a quick look at three primary areas of development for each school. And here’s the list of spring dates I posted a while back.

Wednesday's News: Our Expert Hits The Links

It was just last week when many felt Northwestern played perhaps the biggest game in school annals. And it lost, 67-55, in overtime at home to Michigan. But the Wildcats rebounded to score a huge win at Penn State over the weekend. Now, comes yet another “biggest game in school history” for the Wildcats tonight when Ohio State visits. In the first of today’s five big links worth a look, Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune says Northwestern needs another big game from John Shurna if it wants to beat Ohio State.

A first for Indiana: Down goes No. 1, No. 2, No. 5

The Indiana men’s basketball program owns five national championships and 20 Big Ten crowns. Never in its decorated history has it beaten three top 5 teams in one regular season, though. Until now. With Tuesday night’s 70-55 victory over No. 5 Michigan State, the Hoosiers registered their third win of the season over an AP top 5 team. The other wins: No. 1 Kentucky and then-No. 2 Ohio State.
