End of the Road: Wildcats Knock Hoosiers Out

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lift Kentucky to a 102-90 win over Indiana on Friday at Georgia Dome in Atlanta in the Sweet Sixteen. Christian Watford had 27 points to lead the Hoosiers (27-9), whose comeback season ended two wins shy of the Final Four. Indiana, which won a total of 28 games the previous three seasons, has regained its usual place among the college basketball bluebloods. Full boxscore is here.

Syracuse edges Wisconsin, 64-63

Top-seeded Syracuse held on for a 64-63 victory over fourth-seeded Wisconsin on Thursday night in the East Regional semifinals. The Badgers had two shots at the win after Kris Joseph, a 75 percent free throw shooter, missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 18.9 seconds left and the Orange leading by a point. Jordan Taylor came down and missed a 3-pointer with 3 seconds left and Mike Bruesewitz’s toss with the rebound was off, at the buzzer.

Louisville drops Michigan State, 57-44

Louisville’s defense shut down Michigan State as the Cardinals upset the Spartans 57-44 Thursday at US Airways Center in Phoenix in the Sweet Sixteen. Scoring so few points is rare for Michigan State (29-8), a team that came in averaging 74.1 points per game this season.

Buckeyes advance but Spartans, Badgers fall

We tracked tonight’s three Big Ten games in the Sweet Sixteen. Wisconsin had a chance late but fell to Syracuse in the first game, 63-64. Then Michigan State was eliminated by Louisville. In the late game, Ohio State handled Cincinnati.
