It was a busy day in Big Ten women’s basketball Sunday, as eight teams were in action. In completed action, Michigan State downed Ohio State, 82-68, Michigan knocked off Wisconsin, 60-44, and No. 13 Penn State drilled Minnesota, 83-53.
Nik Stauskas and Michigan had plenty of reasons to celebrate following their rivalry win at No. 3 Michigan State on Saturday night. Not only did the decision hand Michigan State its first loss and give Michigan sole possession of first place, it marked the team’s third consecutive win over a top 10 team, with two of the wins coming on the road. So, how did Stauskas celebrate? By blowing a kiss to the Breslin Center crowd after the final buzzer.
The Big Ten’s final two unbeatens met Saturday night at the Breslin Center, and it was No. 21 Michigan upsetting No. 3 Michigan State to take over sole possession of first place. Iowa’s Gabe Olaseni had a day to remember in Saturday afternoon’s 76-50 win at Northwestern. The junior tallied his third double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) of the season in just 17 minutes, plus he had the game’s top highlight on a vicious one-handed putback in the first half.
