Northwestern scored 13 points in the quarter, and the Wildcats now lead 20-0. Northwestern threw for 119 yards and ran for 80 yards in the quarter. The Wildcats expanded their lead to 10-0 thanks to a 12-play, 61-yard drive that ended when Jeff Budzien kicked a 44-yard field goal.

Thanks to a mean rushing attack, Northwestern leads 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats rushed for 80 yards in the quarter. The Wildcats struck first when Kain Colter took a quarterback draw all the way for an eight-yard touchdown run, the final play of a six-play, 80-yard drive.

1st Quarter Recap: Iowa 3, Minnesota 0

The two teams combined for more punts than points in a slow first quarter and Iowa leads 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. There were four punts in the quarter as neither team could find a way to move the ball. The Hawkeyes struck first when Mike Meyer drilled a 43-yard field goal, the final play of a six-play, 49-yard drive. Iowa’s drive was keyed by James Vandenberg’s 45-yard pass.

1st Quarter Recap: Penn State 14, Illinois 0

Penn State gave up only eight passing yards during the first quarter and the Nittany Lions lead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Penn State struck first when Zach Zwinak turned a handoff into a one-yard touchdown, the final play of an eight-play, 26-yard drive. The Nittany Lions started in good field position when Penn State recovered a fumble.
