MINNEAPOLIS – Jerry Kill is getting closer to turning the corner in his third season at Minnesota. This team looks noticeably bigger—and more athletic—than when I was here last August to watch practice. And Kill told me afterward that the players are now leading themselves better—and buying in.

The topic of breakout players can be an ambiguous one. For example, some people view Nebraska’s Ameer Abdullah as a 2013 breakout player. Others, meanwhile, feel that with 1,315 total yards and 10 scores a season ago, he’s well past “breakout” territory. I tend to side with the latter. Either way, I went to Twitter and asked Big Ten fans for their 2013 breakout candidates.
MADISON, Wis. – No doubt about it, Gary Andersen will possess plenty of talent in his first season at Wisconsin. In fact, ex-coach Bret Bielema often pointed toward 2013 as being a potentially big season for a program that has gone to the last three Rose Bowls. On Thursday, the defense had a big edge on the offense, as camp legs appear to be setting in.
