3rd Quarter Recap: Wisconsin 19, N. Iowa 7

Wisconsin’s front seven stepped up in the third quarter, allowing Northern Iowa to gain just 19 rushing yards, and the Badgers now lead 19-7. Wisconsin opened up the lead, 19-0, after marching down the field for an eight-play, 60-yard drive that ended when Montee Ball ran one yard to paydirt. The Panthers closed the gap to 19-7 when Sawyer Kollmorgen threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Chad Owens to cap a 75-yard drive.

2nd Quarter Recap: Purdue 34 , E. Kentucky 6

Purdue looks to be in control of the game as it leads 34-6 at the end of the second quarter. The Boilermakers opened up the lead, 20-0, after marching down the field for an eight-play, 45-yard drive that ended when Kurt Freytag pounded in a seven-yard touchdown run.

2nd Quarter Recap: Nebraska 28, Southern Miss 17

Nebraska’s aerial assault is on point, as the Cornhuskers now lead 28-17 thanks to 150 passing yards in the quarter. Nebraska’s Taylor Martinez threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the quarter. Southern Miss tied the game at 14 after Chris Campbell and Dominique Sullivan hooked up for a 24-yard touchdown to end an 11-play, 73-yard drive. The Cornhuskers broke the 14-14 tie when Martinez and Jake Long combined for a nine-yard touchdown to clinch an 11-play, 59-yard scoring drive. A 49-yard drive that ended when Corey Acosta drilled a 44-yard field goal helped the Golden Eagles narrow the deficit to 21-17.

2nd Quarter Recap: Wisconsin 13, N. Iowa 0

Wisconsin stifled Northern Iowa’s offense, giving up just 18 total yards in the second quarter, and the Badgers now lead 13-0. Wisconsin’s Jared Abbrederis caught two passes for 17 yards and one touchdown in the quarter. The Badgers expanded their lead to 6-0 thanks to a 12-play, 66-yard drive that ended when Kyle French kicked a 35-yard field goal. James White’s 20-yard run took Wisconsin from the 31 and across midfield to ignite the drive.

Backup QB Siemian lifts Northwestern past Syracuse

Backup quarterback Trevor Siemian hit Demetrius Fields for a 9-yard touchdown pass with 44 seconds left and Northwestern held on to beat Syracuse 42-41 Saturday in the teams’ season opener. Siemian, subbing for starter Kain Colter, drove the Wildcats 75 yards in 10 plays, taking advantage of a critical personal foul against Syracuse defender Keon Lyn for a late hit out of bounds on the previous play.
