Indiana was a big winner this week, showing why it’s the No. 1 team in the nation and a favorite to win the school’s first national championship since 1987, when Keith Smart hit one of the biggest shots in school history to down Syracuse. The Hoosiers’ win in East Lansing against Michigan State was very impressive. But that’s not all that went on last week.
The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team upset No. 12 Minnesota, 195.725-195.550, in Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Friday night. The Hawkeyes hit 24 for 24 routines and finished with a 49.225 floor performance to sew up the win. Minnesota was undefeated before falling to Iowa. Read the full recap at HawkeyeSports.com.
BTN will air a 30-minute special Black History Month presentation called “Football Pioneers” at 9:30 p.m. ET Friday Hosted by Howard Griffith, the show features interviews with former Northwestern head coach Dennis Green,who was just the second African-American head coach in Division I history. We also talk with Sidney Williams, a former Wisconsin quarterback who was Big Ten’s first African-American starting quarterback, and current Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell.

BTN’s new series, BTN LiveBIG, continues Wednesday following the Purdue at Iowa men’s basketball game, with stories about programs that emphasize the importance of screening newborns for life-threatening conditions, and an advanced driving-simulator facility to help reduce car crashes.
