Iowa throttles Coppin State, 80-50

Aaron White scored 20 points as Iowa throttled Coppin State 80-50 on Saturday afternoon at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes (11-2) have won six straight games for the first time in eight years. White made 7 of 8 shots from the floor and 6 of 7 from the foul line. The forward had six dunks – including a nice one-hand slam off an alley-oop. The Hawkeyes scored 50 points in the paint and missed all 17 of their 3-point attempts. Iowa used a 17-2 run in the first half to pull away from Coppin State (3-10). The Eagles didn’t score on

Mellencamp Ryan 12-21

Did You See This? Mellencamp & Ryan are back

Last January Indiana native, Hoosiers fan, and musician John Mellencamp brought actress Meg Ryan to an Indiana home basketball game, and our BTN crew spotted them back then taking in the game up close. Well, the pair were back at Assembly Hall on Friday night to see Indiana take down Florida Atlantic. Catch the video of them here. Here they are earlier this season watching the Hoosiers play Central Connecticut State. And here they are last season.

Florida Atlantic at Indiana

Indiana rolls to 88-52 win

Cody Zeller had 24 points and six rebounds, leading four Indiana players into double figures and the sixth-ranked Hoosiers routed Florida Atlantic 88-52. The Hoosiers (11-1) have won 29 straight home games against nonconference foes. Since losing to Butler on Saturday, the Hoosiers have shot a combined 64 of 106 from the field (60.4 percent). Did You See This? Call him 'The 3-Point Doctor'

At the halftime of Friday’s women’s basketball game between Indiana and Xavier that aired live online on the Big Ten Digital Network, Dr. Lee Walden put on a pretty impressive shooting clinic. Walden, a travelling three-point specialist, shot 74 percent from three-point range as part of a game-related promotion. Watch it all in the video in this post. Walden has clearly done this all before. Here’s a YouTube clip from a recent appearance at Illinois, and here’s an older clip from when he shot out the lights at Murray State. By our count at Indiana on Friday, Walden made seven of 10 from each

Gary Andersen

UW's Andersen plans to hit the ground running

Gary Andersen sounded like a confident and prepared coach. Soon, he’ll get the chance to prove it, as he was introduced today as the new Wisconsin coach. “This is an exciting day for the Badger football program,” said Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez. “I believe we did our due diligence and have the right fit.” And with that, the Andersen era has begun following the shocking departure of Bret Bielema to Arkansas on Dec. 4, just days after leading the Badgers to a 70-31 win over Nebraska in the Big Ten title game. Wisconsin’s 2013 Schedule Aug. 31 UMASS Sept.

Nebraska vs Wisconsin

Season in review: Wisconsin football

Wisconsin isn’t apologizing for being the first five-loss team ever in the Rose Bowl. The Badgers will proudly punch their third ticket in a row to Pasadena, thanks largely to a defense that played well all season. This team’s grit in the face of adversity also is admirably, as the offensive line coach was canned two games into the season; three quarterbacks have started games; and now, head coach Bret Bielema has bolted. The Wolverines led 40-24 at halftime and enjoyed an even bigger cushion for much of the second half. Catch up on all the action on our Big Ten scoreboard and get video, stats and recaps in this post. Reggie Hearn

Q&A: Northwestern's Reggie Hearn

Reggie Hearn knows some great basketball players have matriculated through Northwestern. Guys like Evan Eschmeyer, Billy McKinney, Shon Morris, Juice Thompson and John Shurna, among others. And none of them delivered an NCAA tourney bid. There have been six trips to the NIT, but Hearn and his teammates want more. They want to dance in March. The 6-4, 210-pound senior guard from Fort Wayne, Ind., has helped the Wildcats move to an 8-3 start following a 74-68 win over Texas State. Next up is a visit from Stanford on Friday. It will be Northwestern’s first big test since losing senior
