No. 2 Michigan dismantles Iowa, 95-67

Trey Burke had 19 points and a career-high 12 assists, part of another stellar offensive performance from No. 2 Michigan in a 95-67 win over Iowa on Sunday. Glenn Robinson III added 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolverines, who had only 17 points with 7:00 remaining in the first half before overwhelming the Hawkeyes (11-4, 0-2 Big Ten) with a flurry of dunks, 3-pointers and other highlights. Michigan (15-0, 2-0) is a win away from matching the program’s best start to a season. The 1985-86 team began 16-0. Devyn Marble scored 14 points for the Hawkeyes, who were

BTN/BTN2Go to air Bill O'Brien's press conference

BTN/BTN2Go will air Penn State football coach Bill O’Brien’s press conference at 9 a.m. ET Monday. The coach, who went right out on the recruiting trail following the regular season, is addressing the media to close out the 2012 season. In Year 1 of the post-Joe Paterno era, O’Brien led Penn State to an 8-4 record, including 6-2 in Big Ten play – good enough for second place in the Leaders Division. The Nittany Lions were ineligible for the postseason, however, due to NCAA sanctions. O’Brien, who was courted by NFL teams recently, was named the Hayes-Schembechler and Dave McClain

Branden Dawson

Michigan State denies Branden Dawson punch

Earlier Saturday, BTN aired a clip of Michigan State’s Branden Dawson possibly throwing a punch at Purdue’s Travis Carroll during Saturday afternoon’s game. Since then, Michigan State has reviewed the tape from different angles, and said it doesn’t appear Dawson threw a punch. Watch our video of the play in question now. Michigan State sports information director Matt Larson sent the following in an email: “The angle of Branden Dawson that BTN had during the broadcast certainly makes it look like there might have been a punch. However, I’ve viewed an angle from underneath the basket and that does not

Joseph Bertrand

Did You See This? Bertrand reverse alley-oop

While not quite to the level of J.R. Smith a few days ago, Illinois’ Joseph Bertrand went for a silly reverse alley-oop of his own in Saturday’s rout of Ohio State. Brandon Paul set up the highlight-reel play with a pass that he delivered from just inside the halfcourt line. Watch the reverse alley-oop here and see a great picture of it in this post. Illinois bounces back, dominates Ohio State

Brandon Paul scored 19 points and No. 11 Illinois bounced back from a tough loss in its Big Ten opener to beat No. 8 Ohio State 74-55 on Saturday. The Illini (14-2, 1-1) led 37-25 at halftime and used a 13-2 run early in the second half to build a 50-27 lead. Illinois used stingy defense to shut down the Buckeyes (11-3, 1-1), who shot just 33 percent from the field and turned the ball over 16 times. Nnanna Egwu added 16 points for Illinois and Tracy Abrams had 13 points and five assists. Deshaun Thomas led Ohio State with

Freshman Gary Harris scored a career-high 22 points, and No. 18 Michigan State used a 28-7 run in the second half to pull away for an 84-61 victory over Purdue on Saturday. The Spartans (12-3, 1-1 Big Ten) missed their first 10 shots from the field after halftime, but it didn’t much matter in what quickly became a free throw contest. Michigan State finished 18 of 22 from the line, and the Boilermakers were 9 of 20 – including 6 of 16 in the second half. Branden Dawson had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Spartans, who bounced back

Bill O'Brien

Today's links: O'Brien staying is a very good thing

First he’s gone, then he’s staying. It has been a crazy few days tracking the saga of Penn State’s Bill O’Brien. But, according to many reports last night, O’Brien is staying in State College, Pa. So, let’s begin Friday’s daily links right there. Had O’Brien left, it would have been a crippling blow to the program as it begins to wade into the toughest period of the severe NCAA sanctions. But with O’Brien back, I think the Nittany Lions have a shot to not fall off the “football cliff” the next four to five years Let’s review. Penn State 2012
