No. 2 Michigan holds off feisty Nebraska, moves to 16-0

Glenn Robinson III had 14 points, including a pair of crucial dunks in the second half, and No. 2 Michigan equaled its best start to a season with a 62-47 victory over Nebraska on Wednesday night. The Wolverines (16-0, 3-0 Big Ten) overcame their shakiest shooting performance in a while, holding the lead for the entire second half. The only other Michigan team to start 16-0 was the 1985-86 edition that went on to win the Big Ten title. Ray Gallegos scored 19 points for Nebraska (9-7, 0-3), which held the Wolverines to a 39 percent mark from the field.

Ed Hightower

Did You See This? Ed Hightower, meet scorer's table

In the first half of No. 2 Michigan’s 62-47 victory over Nebraska on Wednesday at Crisler Center, well-known referee Ed Hightower got up close and personal with the scorer’s table. It all happened following a loose ball near the Nebraska bench, when Hightower, the ball and Shavon Shields all met at the same point. The result: Hightower, while trying to signal the call, fell onto the table. Watch the sequence here. Taylor Lewan

Lewan surprises, announces return to Michigan

It was a surprise to some that Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan opted to return for his senior season. But it’s great news for the Wolverines, as Lewan will be among the top linemen in the nation in 2013. Most draft experts projected the 6-9, 309-pound junior to be a first-round pick coming off a season in which he was a consensus first-team All-Big Ten selection and voted the Big Ten offensive lineman of the year for an 8-5 Michigan team. Lewan often dominated foes and held his own in a ballyhooed matchup with South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney

Today's links: Huge stretch for high-flying Gophers

It all begins tonight for No. 8 Minnesota. And that’s why I’m beginning my daily links right here, America. You see, it’s put-up-or-shut-up time for the 14-1 Golden Gophers. And I love put-up-or-shut-up time. You should, too. We will discover how good this team is with a game at Illinois tonight (9 p.m. WET on BTN/BTN2Go) and a visit to Indiana on Saturday. Minnesota then returns home to play Michigan on Jan. 17. All together how: wow! At the very least, Minnesota must go 1-2. It cannot be swept. A 2-1 mark would be considered highly successful. A 3-0 record?

Video: Sam Thompson slams on A.J. Hammons

Sam Thompson is quickly becoming the media’s best friend. Pretty much every game, the Ohio State sophomore gives us something to talk about, something to watch over and over. And we all appreciate it. Of course, I’m referring to his unbelievable dunks. In Tuesday’s win at Purdue, Thompson delivered another highlight, this time posterizing Purdue freshman big man A.J. Hammons. Watch the dunk now and see Twitter reaction in this post. [ RELATED: Watch 2012-13 slams on our Big Ten Dunk Archive ] Earlier Tuesday, I posted my top 5 dunkers in the Big Ten. Matta reaches milestone in win over Purdue

Deshaun Thomas scored 22 points to lead No. 14 Ohio State to a 74-64 victory over Purdue on Tuesday night. The angry Buckeyes (12-3, 2-1) rebounded from their first Big Ten loss by shooting 56.4 percent from the field. With the victory, Ohio State sent coach Thad Matta to his 100th Big Ten victory. Ohio State, which took a 10-point halftime lead despite Aaron Craft playing just 4:19, has won four of the last five in this series and eight of their last 10 overall. Purdue (7-8, 1-2) has lost two straight to Top 20 teams since upsetting No. 11
