Cody Zeller

Did You See This? Cody Zeller dribble, drive & dunk

Cody Zeller isn’t your typical big man. The Indiana sophomore runs the floor as well as anyone, almost regardless of height, and he can handle the ball, too. He showed the latter skill on a highlight-reel dunk in Saturday’s win over No. 10 Minnesota. And this one looked like a play a wing would make, as Zeller, from beyond the arc, penetrated and hammered it home. He even took a seat against the basket support after the poke. Watch the highlight now. [ RELATED: Watch 2012-13 slams in our Big Ten Dunk Archive ] Here’s Zeller running the floor: And

Wisconsin heats up, scorches No. 13 Illinois

Jared Berggren scored 15 points and grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds, and Traevon Jackson added a career-best 14 points to lead Wisconsin over No. 13 Illinois 74-51 Saturday. The Badgers (12-4, 3-0 Big Ten) scored the game’s first 14 points and led by 20 at halftime on the way to their sixth straight win. [ RELATED: Vote: Which Wisconsin dunk was best? ] It was a stunning performance from a team that scored just 47 in the previous game against Nebraska, but a supposedly slow and methodical team locked into a higher gear and ended the suspense almost as soon

No. 5 Indiana holds off No. 10 Minnesota, 88-81

Victor Oladipo had 20 points and six rebounds and Jordan Hulls knocked down four 3-pointers, helping No. 5 Indiana hold off No. 10 Minnesota’s late charge for an 88-81 victory Saturday. The Hoosiers (15-1, 3-0 Big Ten) have won six straight overall and 18 in a row at Assembly Hall. Minnesota (15-2, 3-1) was led by Andre Hollins with 25 points but had its 11-game winning streak snapped despite rallying from 23 points down at halftime to within 3 with 19.5 seconds left. Stanford vs Minnesota

Who's climbing & who's dropping this week?

There is a big weekend on tap, with several games that will go a long way in helping shape the Big Ten race. The headliner is Minnesota’s visit to Indiana on Saturday (noon ET on BTN/BTN2Go). And Michigan’s junket to Ohio State on Sunday also will tell us a lot about both teams—especially the Buckeyes, who must defend their home court to remain among the leaders. Before the action tips off, take a look back and ahead with my 3-pointers. THREE STOCKS TO BUY 1. Minnesota. The Golden Gophers are white hot, having won 11 in a row in jetting to

Big Ten Geeks: Gophers make a statement

On Wednesday, Minnesota made a statement, beating Illinois by 17 points in Champaign. This was a strange one, as the Illini actually negated the Gophers’ huge on-paper advantage on the glass. Instead, it was a big discrepancy in shooting accuracy that told the story. Minnesota, normally a mediocre outside shooting team, hit nine of 15 from behind the arc, while Illinois made just three of its 24 three-point attempts. The Gopher defense certainly had a lot to do with the Illini’s struggles–there just weren’t all that many open looks–but it was also just one of those nights (see Andre Hollins’ banked-in three from nearly midcourt to

Today's links: Iowa faces uphill battle

Iowa is off to a rough start in the Big Ten, an 0-3 start vs. three very good teams (Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State). The latest setback was a 62-59 defeat at home to the Spartans that the Hawkeyes had their chances to win. Let’s start the daily links right there in Iowa City, shall we? Mike Hlas of the Cedar Rapids Gazette says it’s more evidence that Iowa isn’t out of the Big Ten lowlands yet. Now what? I think the best is yet to come for a young Iowa that starts three freshmen in guards Mike Gessell and Anthony
