Fran McCaffery

'The Journey' spotlights Chris Street tribute

On Sunday night’s “The Journey: Big Ten Basketball 2013,” we featured Tom Crean, Bacari Alexander and Chris Street. The latter was honored this past week, on the 20th anniversary of his death, and “The Journey” was there to give fans an all-access look at how the Hawkeyes honored their legend. We even had cameras in the locker room to capture Street’s family congratulating the Hawkeyes and Fran McCaffery presenting the Game Ball to the Street’s. Watch the segment now. Here’s a bonus clip of McCaffery talking about Street: And here are more Street clips: ***

No. 1 next? No. 2 Michigan topples Illinois, 74-60

Trey Burke scored 19 points and No. 2 Michigan never trailed after the opening minutes of a 74-60 win Sunday over Illinois that could push the Wolverines to No. 1 in the nation for the first time since the 1992-93 season. Duke’s lopsided loss to Miami earlier in the week opened the door for a new No. 1 when the AP poll comes out Monday – and Michigan put itself in position to take the top spot. Glenn Robinson III scored 14 points for the Wolverines (19-1, 6-1 Big Ten). Nik Stauskas and Tim Hardaway Jr. added 12 each. [

Pegula Ice Arena

Video: Tour Penn State's Pegula Ice Arena

You’ve heard of Happy Valley. Wait until you see Hockey Valley. Penn State’s new hockey home, Pegula Ice Arena, is a sight to behold. The new facility, which will open for the 2014 season, included an $80 million construction fee, and it’s pretty easy to see where all the money went. With a capacity of 6,000, Pegula will be the smallest arena in the Big Ten, however it was constructed to have the fans right on the ice. Watch Kara Lentz’s all-access tour of the new arena now. Three tiebreakers later, No. 4 Iowa tops No. 3 Minnesota

No. 4 Iowa outscored No. 3 Minnesota, 41-33, in match points to defeat the Gophers, 16-15, Saturday at Williams Arena. The two teams were tied at 15 after splitting the first 10 bouts, but the Hawkeyes earned the deciding team point based on the advantage in match points — the third tiebreak criteria. “I don’t want to nitpick here but we could have scored some bonus points,” said head coach Tom Brands. “You have to get bonus points when you can. We had some close matches that came down to finishing. If we finish we’ll see more things go our

Traevon Jackson

Traevon Jackson game-winner: Good or no good?

Traevon Jackson beat the shot clock in the final seconds to lift Wisconsin past No. 14 Minnesota on Saturday. Or did he? This one was about as close as buzzer-beaters come. Remember, if the shot clock buzzer sounds and the ball has yet to leave the shooter’s hand, it’s a violation. On this play, it’s hard to tell if the ball is out of Jackson’s fingertips before the horn goes off. See for yourself in this video and check out a screengrab in this post. Here’s a screengrab of the shot. Again, a violation occurs on the horn, not the
