Today's links: More analysis on Signing Day

The smoke has cleared on Signing Day 2013. And, from what I can tell, every coach in the Big Ten is smiling as they dream of the great possibilities for all of their signees. Having typed that, let’s lead daily links with myriad recruiting stories. While the ink is drying on a highly-ranked Ohio State recruiting class that is ready to compete right now with studs like safety Vonn Bell, Urban Meyer already is contemplating next year’s recruiting strategy. And it will include a greater focus on O-H-I-O. Speaking of Ohio State, Buckeyes fans won’t like this. It seems Michigan signee

Michigan's Zack Novak

Big Ten Tales: Zack Novak & his Denard Robinson story

Have you heard the story about the time former Michigan basketball player Zack Novak convinced everyone at a party that he was Denard Robinson? I recently spoke with Novak by phone to hear this story and others as the Michigan graduate now plays professional basketball in the Netherlands. After a standout collegiate career as a four-year Wolverines starter from 2008-12, Novak finished first all-time in minutes played at Michigan and third all-time in both career games (134) and starts (122). He also became the 28th Michigan player to ever score 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds in a career. After school, Novak signed

Wisconsin outlasts Iowa, 74-70, in double overtime

Ben Brust scored 18 points, including three key free throws in double overtime, as Wisconsin beat Iowa 74-70 Wednesday night. Jared Berggren added 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Badgers (16-7, 7-3 Big Ten), who snapped a three-game losing streak to the Hawkeyes. Mike Gesell led Iowa (14-9, 3-7) with 14 points and Aaron White added 13. Wisconsin, which has shot less than 62 percent from the foul line this season, converted 13 of 14 free throws in the two overtime periods. Derrick Nix

No. 8 Michigan State puts away No. 18 Minnesota

Gary Harris scored 15 points and Keith Appling added 14 points before leaving the game with an injury to help No. 12 Michigan State bounce back from a poor first half to beat No. 18 Minnesota 61-50 Wednesday night. [ VIDEO: Derrick Nix flattens Michigan State cheerleaders ] Appling left the court with 1:17 left, holding his right shoulder after getting tied up with Joe Coleman. He returned to the bench in the final minute. The Spartans (19-4 8-2 Big Ten) moved into a second-place tie with No. 3 Michigan, whom they host Tuesday night. They picked up their eighth

Derrick Nix

Did You See This? Derrick Nix drops cheerleaders

Derrick Nix is 6-foot-9 and 270 pounds. Save for Nebraska’s Andre Almeida, Nix is the last guy in the Big Ten that anyone would want falling on him or her. That’s especially true when the “her” is a couple of cheerleaders. Yep, Nix accidentally took out a pair of cheerleaders on the baseline in the first half of Wednesday’s win over Minnesota. Watch Nix’s momentum take him out of bounds and the end result now. All I can say is it’s a good think this was the 270-pound Nix and not the 300-plus pound version from the past. Here are

The fax machines have stopped spitting out letters-of-intent. In fact, they have been unplugged to prevent from overheating. Now, it’s time to take a look at what happen amid a Signing Day frenzy, with schools stocking their rosters for the future. Here’s a spin around Big Ten Signing Day 2013. [ RELATED: What’s in a name? Gary Andersen

2013 National Signing Day: Wisconsin

New coach Gary Andersen got off to a slow start upon arriving in Madison from Utah State in late-December. And RB Alex Collins, who some think is the top running back in the nation, opted to join Bret Bielema in Arkansas. But Andersen made up some ground and finished with a strong collection of talent, highlighted by a late commitment from top JC QB Tanner McEvoy, who picked the Badgers over Florida. Bill O'Brien

2013 National Signing Day: Penn State

Because of the NCAA sanctions because of the Jerry Sandusky scandal, Bill O’Brien and the Nittany Lions assembled the smallest class in the league (17). But it’s a strong class that is anchored by a total of six linemen on both sides of the ball. O’Brien hung on to early commitments from Christian Hackenberg (the No. 2 QB in the nation) and TE Adam Breneman (the No. 2 tight end in the nation).
