(AP) Aaron Harrison made a 3-pointer from NBA range with 2.3 seconds left Sunday to lift Kentucky to a 75-72 win over Michigan and a trip to the Final Four. Harrison, one of five freshmen on eighth-seeded Kentucky’s starting lineup, elevated over Caris LeVert, and drained it. He scored all 12 of his points over the last 8:05.
And just like that, Michigan State’s season is over. Finished. Kaput. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. But, in some ways, this seems like a fitting end to season that forever will be marked by what-ifs.
(AP) Shabazz Napier scored 17 of his 25 points in the second half, and UConn beat Michigan State 60-54 to return to the Final Four a year after the Huskies were barred from the NCAA tournament. Napier hit three huge free throws with 37.6 seconds left in the East Regional final at Madison Square Garden to carry UConn to the Final Four just as Kemba Walker did in Napier’s freshman year.
John Harbaugh’s brother, Jim, is a former Michigan quarterback, and his brother in-law, Tom Crean, is the Indiana basketball coach. So, when the CBS cameras caught the Baltimore Raves head coach wearing a Michigan State hat during the team’s Elite Eight game Sunday afternoon, it had people talking.
It’s no secret Michigan and Michigan State are fierce rivals. Sometimes, however, conference pride and a chance to make rare history can supersede a rivalry. Consider this: If Michigan and Michigan State both win today, the Big Ten will be the first conference to put three teams in the Final Four since the Big East did it in 1985.
Individual event winners were crowned on the second day of the Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Championships, which concluded with the conference office announcing the All-Big Ten teams and postseason award winners. Event titles were claimed by gymnasts from four schools, including three championships from Ohio State and one each from Illinois, Minnesota and Penn State.
