Big Ten releases 2016 & 2017 conference slates

Back in April, the Big Ten announced it was going to implement a nine-game conference schedule, starting in 2016. Thursday, it unveiled the first such schedule—along with the 2017 Big Ten league slate. [ RELATED: 2016 conference slate (PDF) | 2017 conference slate (PDF) ] One thing fans will notice in the 2016 and 2017 schedules is conference games being played earlier in the season. Previously, league games typically didn’t begin until October—depending on calendar quirks. But the extra league contest has pushed Big Ten action forward in the calendar, as schools will drop from four to three non-conference games

Who wins Leaders vs. Legends All-Star Game?

With the 2013 MLB All-Star Game less than a week away, I recently got to thinking about a Big Ten football all-star game. You know, a game that pits the Leaders Division’s best vs. the Legends Division’s best. Who would be on the teams, and who would win? See both teams, which were constructed using Phil Steele’s 2013 preseason teams, in this post. Penn State offensive lineman John Urschel has the honor – not to mention stress – of speaking on behalf of the players at the Big Ten Kickoff Luncheon on July 25 in Chicago. Urschel tweeted that he’s “honored” to represent the 36 Big Ten players who will be in attendance at the Hilton Chicago. 2013 B1G writers' football uniform power rankings

What’s better than your typical Big Ten football uniform power ranking? A uniform ranking decided by 12 Big Ten writers, that’s what. BTN.com recently asked a writer for every school to rank the conference’s uniforms, from 1-12. We asked the writers to consider the uniforms as a whole, factoring in home, away, alternate(s) and helmet(s). Editor’s note: The final ranking was determined using point totals (12 points for No. 1 ranking; 1 point for No. 12 ranking; etc.) and it is listed in order, from most points to fewest points.
