Oklahoma State flattens Purdue, 58-14

Clint Chelf threw three of Oklahoma State’s five touchdown passes and the Cowboys shook off a disappointing Big 12 finish by dominating Purdue 58-14 in the Heart of Dallas Bowl on Tuesday. The Cowboys, a year removed from a Fiesta Bowl win that capped the best season in school history, forced five turnovers and had another short touchdown drive after a 64-yard punt return from Josh Stewart. No. 5 Indiana fends off Iowa, 69-65

Cody Zeller had 15 of his 19 points in the second half and fifth-ranked Indiana opened Big Ten play by holding off Iowa 69-65 on Monday night. Victor Oladipo scored 14 points for the Hoosiers (13-1, 1-0 Big Ten), who snapped a four-game losing streak in Iowa City and have now won four straight since losing to Butler two weeks ago.

Minnesota takes down Michigan State in Big Ten opener

Andre Hollins had 22 points and six assists and Rodney Williams added 15 points and six rebounds to lift No. 9 Minnesota to a 76-63 victory over No. 18 Michigan State on Monday. Trevor Mbakwe had 11 points and 12 rebounds and the Golden Gophers (13-1, 1-0 Big Ten) shot 56.6 percent to open conference play with an emphatic victory over a team that has owned them for years.

Illini, Kokesh & Welch win Midlands Championships titles

Illinois won the team title and two Big Ten wrestlers took home individual crowns at the 50th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Illini finished with 99.5 points, two ahead of second-place Virginia Tech, while Nebraska’s Robert Kokesh (174 lbs) and Northwestern’s Jason Welch (157) won their respective weight classes.
