B1G Player Rankings: No. 16, Jack Mewhort

We’re 16 days from the 2013 football season kicking off. Indiana (Indiana State) and Minnesota (UNLV) get things started for the Big Ten on Thursday, Aug. 29 on BTN/BTN2Go. To help count down the days to kickoff, BTN.com is ranking the top 25 players. Join us as we count it down, from 25-1, every day. No. 16: Jake Mewhort, OT, Ohio State As the left tackle, Mewhort, of course, is responsible for protecting Braxton Miller’s blind side. That alone makes the senior a very valuable commodity. But the former guard also is one of the Big Ten’s best at his

Five Big Ten players appear in Chad Ford's Big Board

There is no doubt that the 2014 NBA Draft will feature one of the most celebrated draft classes in NBA history. In addition to a talented core of college players returning to the hardwood next season, the much-heralded 2014 freshman class is expected to be one of the best in recent memory. So where do next season’s Big Ten stars fall into the mix? ESPN.com senior NBA writer Chad Ford released his initial 2014 NBA Draft Big Board this afternoon, and the list features five Big Ten players in the top 30, and two honorable mention selections. With the 2013 college football season a little more than two weeks away, I thought it was a good time to consider preseason favorites for all of the Big Ten end-of-the-season awards. Braxton Miller, Ohio State 2. Taylor Martinez, Nebraska 3. Dienhart: In Hazell, Purdue has bright future

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue ran a spirited practice Monday that moved in a well-organized fashion. Darrell Hazell is strong presence who floated from group to group, but he tends to gravitate to the offense—his background. There was more hitting in the Boilermakers’ camp this season than last under Danny Hope. I came away impressed with a lot for a program that seemingly has a bright future. [ PROGRAM ALERT: Watch the Purdue Preview Show at 8 p.m. ET Aug. 19 on BTN/BTN2Go ] The quarterback derby continues. Rob Henry ran with the “ones.” He’s a senior with starting experience who

BTN Football Tour: Relive all of our 2013 coverage

It’s one of our favorite annual traditions. Every summer, after each practice on our 12-stop trek across Big Ten country, the player represented on our tour bus signs his likeness. It makes for a tremendous photo op – not to mention a really cool memento from our travels. See a photo of all the players signing their likeness and relive all of our tour coverage right here. B1G Player Rankings: No. 17, Kain Colter

We’re 17 days from the 2013 football season kicking off. No. 17: Kain Colter, QB, Northwestern How dynamic is Northwestern’s do-it-all star? Put it this way: Colter has the athleticism, speed, agility and hands to also be one of the Big Ten’s better running backs or receivers – if need be. But Pat Fitzgerald likes

Dienhart: This Michigan State team is motivated

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Spartans looked impressive in practice Sunday, though they may be showing some “camp legs.” Still, this is an impressive-looking team that is loaded with athletic ability. More vital: It’s a motivated team coming off a 7-6 season. It was a spirited workout that moved efficiently. Mark Dantonio wasn’t as hands-on as some other head coaches I have seen, opting to rove from spot to spot.
