Eight B1G Players on Preseason All-America Team

Michigan senior Taylor Lewan has some heavy expectations on his shoulders heading into the 2013 college football season, in case you haven’t heard. The Wolverines’ talented offensive tackle was one of eight Big Ten stars named to CBSSports.com’s 2013 Preseason All-America team, which was released this past week. Joining Lewan on the first-team All-American list is Ohio State junior defensive back Bradley Roby and Northwestern senior Venric Mark, who is listed as a punt return specialist. The second-team is loaded with Big Ten stars from top to bottom. Ohio State junior quarterback Braxton Miller headlines the offensive group. He is

Purdue names veteran Rob Henry starting QB

Rookie Purdue coach Darrell Hazell made official what everyone suspected when he named fifth-year senior Rob Henry the starting quarterback. Henry has been taking the majority of the snaps with the first team throughout training camp, as he has battled redshirt freshman Austin Appleby and true freshman Danny Etling. In the end, the 23-year-old Henry’s maturity, dual-threat capabilities and superior command of the Boilermaker offense apparently gave him the edge. Known as more of a runner than a passer, Henry has shown an improved arm during training camp operating coordinator John Shoop’s multiple offense. [ AP: Purdue tabs Rob Henry

Minnesota QBs

Dienhart: Kill, Gophers closer to turning corner

MINNEAPOLIS – Jerry Kill is getting closer to turning the corner in his third season at Minnesota. This team looks noticeably bigger—and more athletic—than when I was here last August to watch practice. And Kill told me afterward that the players are now leading themselves better—and buying in. [ PROGRAM ALERT: Watch the Minnesota Preview Show at 8 ET on Friday, Aug. 23 on BTN/BTN2Go ] On the field, the offense is developing more big-play ability, and the play in the trenches is better on both sides of the ball. Here are my thoughts after watching the Golden Gophers practice.
