Third-seeded Michigan State topped fifth-seeded Iowa, 3-2, to claim the 2013 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament Championship on Sunday afternoon. The Spartans rallied from a 2-0 deficit, and Adelle Lever scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal on a highlight play in the 62nd minute. Abby Barker accounted for Michigan State’s first two goals.
Nebraska got an early penalty kick goal from Jaycie Johnson, and it was all it needed to tally a 1-0 victory over Iowa on Sunday in the 2013 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament finals. With the shutout, the Huskers earned the Big Ten’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.
Michigan State trailed Iowa, 2-0, in the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament finals, but the Spartans scored three unanswered goals to rally and claim the championship. An interesting Saturday of action, with Nebraska being the headline story by going on the road and earning a huge win. The last time the Cornhuskers played in Ann Arbor, Nebraska lost, 45-17. It was never any secret that Ameer Abdullah was a stud. The last two weeks, though, the Nebraska star has added “clutch” to his arsenal. Last week, the memorable game-winning Hail Mary wouldn’t have been possible without his incredible fourth-down effort to keep the drive alive. On Saturday at Michigan, he scored the game-winning touchdown to keep Nebraska in control of its destiny in the Legends Division.
