Season Review: It was a weird season in Lincoln

Weird. No other word better describes this season. The campaign dawned amid great promise, as Nebraska was coming off a Legends Division title. Much of that same talent was back, fueling hopes for the program’s first league title since 1999. Alas, the defense often looked a lot like it did in 2012, getting gashed for big yards/points after the staff made myriad vows to “fix things.” And the offense struggled to find a rhythm with quarterback Taylor Martinez succumbing to injury that limited him to four games. Sprinkle in plenty of drama surrounding Bo Pelini—the highlight being the mysterious release

Yarina: My All-Big Ten Most Improved Team

With the nonconference season almost behind us and the conference season just a week away, it’s a good time to consider the Big Ten’s most improved players. There’s plenty of players to choose from, that’s for sure. See who made the cut for my all-improved team in this post. Editor’s note: This list only considers players who played in the Big Ten last year, meaning the Rayvonte Rices and Terran Petteways of the world aren’t eligible. G: Yogi Ferrell, Indiana. A season ago, Ferrell was a true freshman distributor who took a back seat to Indiana’s four 1,000-point scorers. He

Video: Pete Thamel, on Bill O'Brien's future

Penn State’s Bill O’Brien is a hot commodity, and he’ll remain that way as long as he stays at Penn State. Last year, NFL teams inquired about O’Brien following his remarkable job in leading the Nittany Lions to an 8-4 season. Reports indicate there will be more NFL executives pursuing O’Brien this offseason. And the fact O’Brien recently had the NFL buyout in his contract lowered only fuels that notion. Watch our interview with SI’s Pete Thamel discussing O’Brien’s future above and see our team’s thoughts below.

Season Review: Tough to top Minnesota's 2013 story

Minnesota was one of the best stories in the nation in 2013, showing resiliency in the face of adversity as the team dealt with health issues to Jerry Kill that forced him to leave the program at one point. The reins were handed to defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys, who thrived as the acting head coach in keeping the team on course with Kill tending to the seizures that are brought on by his epilepsy. When Kill returned, he worked from the press box on game days. And behind a tough, physical offense and improved defense, the Gophers kept winning en

On Thursday’s #BTNLive, at 6 p.m. ET, it will be all about the seniors. The show will release its 2013 All-Senior Team, which is littered with big-time talent all over the field, and include interviews with select senior stars. See the show’s complete team in this post. To preview the show, I found each player’s Scout prep scouting report and star ranking. Lots of interesting stuff. A look at the All-Senior Team is enlightening. Jared Abbrederis arrived as the least ballyhooed, coming to Wisconsin as a walk-on before earning a scholarship. Two-star recruits include Darqueze Dennard, John Urschel, Tyler Scott,

Big Ten Geeks: Illinois, Ohio State win thrillers

The headliner to the Big Ten’s wild weekend was Ohio State’s improbable comeback over Notre Dame. The Irish held an 8-point lead with under a minute to play, but OSU’s frenzied press led to four Notre Dame turnovers, which fueled a 14-3 Buckeye run. It was an unreal comeback, so hopefully you saw it, and weren’t like, trying to get a toddler to go to sleep. That would have been unfortunate. Wow! @OhioStateHoops goes on a 14-3 run over the last 48 seconds and gets the win. This guy was incredible tonight. pic.twitter.com/D0vpFVwlSU — Sean Merriman (@BTNSean) December 22, 2013
