Spartans top Wolverines to make semifinals

No. 4 seed Michigan State held off fifth-seeded Michigan 62-46 to advance to the Saturday’s semifinals of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament. It’s the Spartans eighth trip to the semifinals in the past 10 seasons.

Penn State tops Ohio State, 76-66

Alex Bentley scored 20 points, Maggie Lucas added 18, and No. 8 Penn State beat Ohio State 76-66 Friday in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament. The top-seeded Lady Lions (25-4) had their difficulties in this one after earning a first-round bye and their second straight regular-season title with a 14-2 conference record. But they went on a big run early in the second half to break a tie and earn a spot in Saturday’s semifinals against the Michigan-Michigan State winner.

Purdue holds off Badgers' challenge

KK Houser scored 15 points and Purdue defeated Wisconsin 74-62 on Friday in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals. Drey Mingo added 13 points and Sam Ostarello had nine points and 11 rebounds for the third-seeded Boilermakers (22-8), who will play No. 21 Nebraska in Saturday’s first semifinal. Nebraska beat Iowa 76-61 in the first quarterfinal game on Friday.

The Big Ten will put on bow on the regular season this weekend, capping what has been a wild and wondrous ride during a season that has seen Indiana and Michigan each hold the No. 1 ranking at some point. And Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota all have been ranked in the top 10 at various points this season.

Huskers eliminate Hawkeyes to advance

Jordan Hooper scored 24 points to lead No. 21 Nebraska to a 76-61 victory over Iowa in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals on Friday. Lindsey Moore had 13 points and six assists, and Emily Cady had eight rebounds and six assists for the Huskers (23-7), the second seed in the tournament. Look back at the GameTracker.
