There were a pair of Big Ten women’s basketball games on Sunday afternoon. No. 15 Penn State kicked off the action by dropping No. 22 Iowa, 87-71, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Big Ten bowl season is officially in the books as Ohio State closed out the conference postseason with a 40-35 loss to Clemson in Friday night’s Discover Orange Bowl. While it wasn’t a great showing for the Big Ten, going 2-5 in conference bowl games, there were still plenty of outstanding individual performances this year. (AP) Ohio State junior linebacker Ryan Shazier has decided to give up his senior season to make himself available for the NFL draft. In a statement released by Ohio State, the first-team All-American said he just felt that this was “the perfect time” for him to move on.

The top-ranked Minnesota men’s hockey team defeated Rensselaer, 6-2, to claim third place at the Mariucci Classic at Mariucci Arena on Saturday night. Tempers flared in the second half of the Penn State-Illinois game, and the scuffle led to an extended delay and the ejection of Penn State guard D.J. Newbill. The mix-up occurred when Kendrick Nunn collided with Newbill on his way up the court after driving for an Illini bucket. Newbill didn’t take kindly to the collision and swung his left hand into the back of Nunn’s head. The two players had to be separated. Watch the scuffle in this post.
